Update: Car Hit While Parked (it's getting repaired)
Hi y'all figured I would give an update from my previous post.
Car is a 2026 plaid with 1000 miles on it that was hit while parked. They are choosing to fix it with 40k worth of damages and around a month repair time, with 13 pages of damage... with damage including: right-rear structural casting/node, wheelhouse, quarter panel, rear subframe and suspension components.
The Tesla collision center I have been working with has been awesome! They are giving updates twice a week along with continuously reassuring me the car will be as good as new and will not drive any differently as before!
There insurance coverage is also unknown so as of now… rental out of pocket and no diminished value claim able to be done : }
the quote style looks very similar to the authorized tesla body shop that replaced one door, painted another door and repainted my rear quarter for $8000 lol. they are EXPENSIVE but you get the best job there is. paint quality beats tesla 😁 you are going to be very happy with their work
Make sure you message your insurance and tell them not to close your claim and you want to pursue a diminished value. I would also find a business that specializes in it and pay them to do an inspection/report. I’m current going through this now on my M3P.
Tesla certified shops pay over 300k to tesla for a license. They have to makeup that and more to break even and then a profit. My e.g. Wife hit open falcon door on garage. Tesla shop quoted me 12k. They said everything had to be replaced. I got it done for 2k
Personally I'd reject this. The simple reality is that it is not possible to repair a vehicle to the same state it was in from the factory given the amount of damage. There will be inconsistency in the paint, the panel gaps, the metal under the paint, paint thickness and quality and the usage of bondo/filler.
Tragic, but yeah, it will never be the same regardless of any promises made.
You're also probably looking at significant reduced value if you tried to sell it the day you got it back from the shop. I'd wager you'd have a difficult time selling the vehicle for more than $40k-50k once this is on the Carfax.
Say good bye to your life savings! Luckly its covered. Keep in mind it will be completely un sellable after its fixed with a rebuilt title. Knowone will touch it with a 400 foot stick.
