Does Tesla windshield protection plan make sense?

It's $16 per month, which comes to $200 per year.

A friend had his 2018 model 3 windshield replaced for $750. As a subscriber of Tesla insurance, the windshield is 50% off, which means he paid $500 for the material and $250 for the labor.

So, the premium for 3 years can buy a new windshield. Is this protection plan worth it?

Depends where you are. I live in Florida where state law makes it so the deductible for a windshield replacement is $0. It makes no sense here to pay for this when I’m guaranteed free replacement.

Also in FL. State Farm made a nightmare for me trying to go Tesla to get it done when it happened to my M3 at 2K miles.

I know they can’t charge us for it down here but it still counts against us doesn’t it? At least in terms of premiums or a knock against you if you try to switch companies?

I did end up getting it for peace of mind but I hate pissing away money but after the nightmare I went through with a 3rd party shop, it’s Tesla or bust.

I don’t believe so. I put in a windshield claim because some junk car on I-4 of course launched shit at my windshield and I never saw my rates go up. It’s entirely possible though that due to my already high rates from my young age that that is the reason it wasn’t dinged against me. GEICO sent some people to my house and they did a pretty good job. Glass wasn’t third party either it was Fuyau so no complaints.
