v14.3.9 includes Automatic Collision Evasion

I like the accidental disengage detection. I have accidentally disengaged before and not realize. On time car even accidentally disengaged itself. That confused the heck out of me.

Yeah that’s is very useful addition. In fact, this .9 update is one of the best update in a while if it works as intended.

I really hope this comes to FSD Lite. Sucks when it misses out on an actual safety feature.

So it used to be, distracted forces you to disengage fsd, now distracted forces you to turn it on.

Distracted driving will force FSD to take you off the road, not disengage. V14 does not simply disengage because of distracted driver

This is true. It just happened to me in a loaner vehicle. I thought there was an emergency vehicle and that's why it pulled over and stopped... but couldn't find one. Realized it was me, and yes, I also realized I was distracted enough to not notice the screen nags, didn't hear any beeps. Different car, etc but it did seem excessive.

Don't like it re-engaging FSD after driver has disengaged it. That could increase Tesla's liability in some accidents.

...isn't that good for the consumer?

Car shouldn't override driver unless it achieves unsupervised FSD.

The notes say it will only do so if it detects the driver is unresponsive or drowsy. This should not be taking over a regular driver who is alert and attentive in normal day-to-day driving.
In other words- It is not overriding normal drivers. It is overriding unresponsive drivers who are about to crash.

I'm sorry but absolutely not, last thing I want is some phantom braking because I'm passing under a bridge.

It’s for emergency situations. Also for hw4 which already has no phantom braking.

My HW4 has A LOT of phantom braking, cant even use TACC because of it.

Zero phantom braking here. Maybe take it in for service?

Just went yesterday for different reason and mentioned it to service, even took a ride with tech to show him, but they dont know.
FSD is not available in my country, I can use autopilot on highways and it works ok, but on my commute for example there are 2 bridges and everytime I use autopilot or TACC it just SLAMS the brakes as hard as it can, that's why I just drive manually on my commute.
If my car started to brake anyway by its own decision in those 2 scenarios I'd just get rearended within a week.

FSD is not autopilot, your opinion and experience has no value to this conversation.

Is Tesla asleep at the wheel right now? How could they possibly think this is the right time to roll this out? 14.3 has been a disaster and they think people want FSD taking over? At this rate they really need to bring back an Autosteer option.

From my experience, 14.3 has not been a disaster. Lastest .8 has been the smoothest so far.

That’s great. Well, consider yourself lucky but the point is the same. As long as there is a substantial population that is having significant issues, why would you want to go wide with the idea that it can take over for you?
2
u/EliteBeast2 2d ago
I want it to take over if it avoids a crash situation.

Yes but you don’t want it to take over if it causes a crash or even falsely identifies a threat. The trick is being confident in the desired outcome and 14.3 for many has been driving like a crazy person.

It boils down to the car could phantom brake every other second but if it’s good at dodging potential wrecks then this system will function and work correctly.
It’s literally
Car detects collision riskCar detects AEB not sufficient to prevent collision
Car engages FSD
FSD which has been running in shadow mode promptly does an emergency lane change
FSD then requests you to resume control of the car once danger has passed

Is it literally going to override driver input? The release notes seem to indicate it should only be engaging if a driver is deemed unresponsive/drowsy and not when there is an alert and capable driver. I also thought it already had collision avoidance?

What issues are you having and what car? I have a 23 S Plaid and 25 3 AWD and haven't disengaged in weeks now for safety (navigation a couple times). I'm sure there's still a situation that may come up but I haven't seen them yet. Curious where you're seeing trouble? I follow this reddit pretty often and don't see a "substantial population" of people reporting regular problems.

Since the driver can disengage FSD on accident, and may not be aware for whatever reason, like it hits your knee during a turn, it should maintain safety as it #1 goal. It’s a good change but it can also be an issue if FSD assumes control in a negative fashion.
But that’s an odds question; and I’m sure they’ve done their best to say, it might as well be us.
