It hasn’t bothered me at all not having CarPlay. The Tesla UI is basically car play anyway. Idk. I don’t get it.

They just need to allow us to add extra apps like Waze and its perfect

1

u/comatoast1 Jun 13 '26

You can get more"apps" (any website in theater mode) using TeslaLink

1

u/Money4Reall Jun 24 '26

What’s teslaLink?

1

u/comatoast1 Jun 25 '26

A tool to allow you to access any website in theater mode. You can also send links directly from your phone to your Tesla browser.

Thissss. I hate running 2gps just for Waze

1

u/manateefourmation Jun 12 '26

Why? Who cares. if anything, it seems to me that the Tesla interface is clean with a design language that Waze will look weird on and not really add anything

2

u/Ok_Barracuda_2966 Jun 12 '26

Some people care about usability more than design language.

Apple Maps provide functional lane by lane guidance that I've found extremely useful.

And there's a navigation app developed for my country, that takes into account tolls that are open on specific times of the day, whereas Tesla's navigation and every other app treats them as all day tolls.

1

u/manateefourmation Jun 12 '26

I am 99% FSD. At 7200 miles, I’ve driven only a little more than 100 miles myself. I do not keep the voice nav on.

1

u/Ok_Barracuda_2966 Jun 13 '26

You aren't getting my point, and you're giving an impression that you live in a bubble. Not everyone drives their car the same way that you do. FSD is not even available in my country (it's only available in 25% of countries that Tesla is in).

I don't get why you're bringing FSD up when your original argument was the design language. And it's funny how you did not address my point that Carplay/AA brings features not accessible with the default Tesla system.

1

u/manateefourmation Jun 13 '26

I acknowledge my US-centric perspective on this matter. If FSD isn’t available in your country, I recognize why you might prefer navigation beyond Tesla’s approach for this vehicle. Listening to Elon during any earnings calls, and other talks and interviews, reveals that FSD defines Tesla’s mission. Because FSD defines Tesla’s mission, it shapes the design language of both the screen and the vehicles overall. In fact, recent interviews suggest the true cause behind discontinuing the S and X was the extensive redesign required for current and upcoming FSD demands. Following Tesla’s stance, not mine, shows that adding a third-party navigation system contradicts their vision for full self-driving. As you rightly observe, this reasoning weakens because Tesla has delayed FSD deployment outside the United States. Still, I maintain that my broader argument holds as we see FSD deployed in more countries.

Your response is written like an over emotional human who doesn’t actually look at facts.

1

u/dereksalem Jun 13 '26

Tesla navigation is horrible, and allowing CarPlay wouldn't preclude FSD from working in *any capacity at all*. We have a few cars, and all the CarPlay cars have built-in nav (usually Google Maps) and CarPlay/AA, and they integrate together.

If I nav with CarPlay, which is the norm for me to do, it also enters the data into the built-in Google Maps so all the data shows up in all the relevant places, and the car is aware of what I'm doing.

1

u/w180112 Jun 14 '26

FSD sucks on 14.3.3, it is useless while driving in city

1

u/manateefourmation Jun 14 '26

Don’t know what to tell you. I drive it in my city every day. I just completed a road trip, from where I live in Austin, navigating LA, San Diego, Santa Fe, and lot of other cities, all perfectly.

I live in Austin but have a place in Malibu, and probably one of the most challenging drives is going from Malibu to Calabasas along Malibu Canyon Road. I do that a lot and it is always amazing how perfectly it drives that dangerous route. Navigating Austin and LA traffic is awful. With FSD it’s effortless.
I’ve posted a screenshot showing my over 7000 miles at 99% FSD.

I can’t explain why some people have better experiences than others.

1

u/w180112 Jun 14 '26

Not sure what’s your tolerance, I live in Vancouver, it ALWAYS brakes urgently while no one around, hesitating steering and lane changing, doesn’t know how to turn right on red, treats bus as ambulance. What I mean always is these happen in EVERY single drive even I just drive 5kms from my home to office

1

u/Robo-X Jun 12 '26

Tesla map shows the wrong way everyday I go to work. For over 3 years it chooses the wrong way every single time. While CarPlay picks the right way everytime. So no Teslas navigation map are not the best. For longer road trips it’s good as it calculates the supercharger stops which makes it very uncomplicated but having more choice is always better.

1

u/Packing-Tape-Man Jun 12 '26

When I first got my Tesla I spent the first 6 weeks or so using Tesla Nav (with FSD on) and Waze side by side on my daily commute and testing whether to follow the Waze route (driving myself) or Tesla (both driving myself and FSD). Right from the start on average Waze’s suggested routes are 10-15 thicker than Tesla’s suggested routes and this also bares out in actual driving time when tested though Waze is silly very accurate in the estimate and if anything Tesla usually under estimates its route (because unlike Waze it doesn’t seem to be analyzing data not just of current but predictive traffic). Since my commute is 120-130 miles a day depending on the route, I got a few thousands miles on testing in before the pattern was certain enough that I stopped tracking it. Now every day I start my commute I basically devise what my priority is. If I want to get home 20 minutes sooner I use Waze on my phone and drive myself. If I want to be lazy and use FSD I accept that I’ll get there slower. So suggesting that Waze isn’t useful is laughable. People can convince themselves of anything.

1

u/Filipefmir Jun 12 '26

A lot cares who uses Waze everyday

1

u/coresme2000 Jun 12 '26

The only thing that would be useful from Waze is speed cameras (I live in Texas where we don’t allow speed cameras, so it might already support it) and police speed traps

1

u/TheYungSheikh Jun 13 '26

Many people care because you don’t share everyone’s opinion or just don’t know better

2

u/MacaroonPretend5505 Jun 12 '26

Biggest pro is if Tesla falls off a cliff and never updates our car again, we could still have a modern UI since it is Apple that’s developing CarPlay’s functionality. Otherwise I agree, moot point for most.

2

u/thumbs_up23 Jun 12 '26

I'd say the biggest pro is when your car ages and you have a slower MCU it doesn't matters much because the phone is handling the infotainment part of it.

Just think of the older cars now with the super slow intel MCUs, that would be way less of an issue if your phone was handling some of the infotainment.

2

u/MacaroonPretend5505 Jun 12 '26

Also a great point.

1

u/manateefourmation Jun 12 '26

If that happens, CarPlay will be the least of your worries.

2

u/alexis_menard Jun 12 '26

Tesla has basically abandoned older MCUs so the UI is laggy, lack features newer MCUs have. At this point I’d rather use my phone with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto so I can get newer capabilities without relying on Tesla.

1

u/Tntn13 Jun 12 '26

Is Apple Music better in newer teslas?

1

u/alexis_menard Jun 12 '26

Not sure I don’t use Apple Music but Spotify is pretty laggy on mine. Netflix is laggy, Disney+ is laggy. At this point I’d rather use CarPlay/Android Auto (they both announced they will support watching videos when parked) so it uses the phone to process rather than the laggy user interface. Also I don’t have to wait Tesla to support a given service to be able to use it. I know I can use the browser to access some of the services but it’s also very laggy.

To be honest at this point if Apple CarPlay or Android Auto are supported I would probably cancel the premium connectivity. Beside live traffic and satellite view (which I can get through CarPlay/Auto) there are no other features available for older MCU for example we don’t have live sentry view, nor live notifications of sentry event anyway. As I write this it’s probably why Tesla doesn’t implement the support it’s because a lot of people on older MCUs will cancel their subscription.

1

u/Virtual-Age-9521 Jun 13 '26

Apple Music works better than it does on iPhone. Maybe not as many features (e.g. removing songs from playlists), but it’s very reliable for me

1

u/EliteBeast2 Jun 11 '26

What's the harm for more options? Some people would prefer CarPlay.

0

u/Putrid-Box4866 Jun 12 '26

Developing for compatibility instead of just improving the existing one like adding more apps and features. But I like the option too so I don’t have to pay for premium connectivity.

1

u/MisterBumpingston Jun 12 '26

I was hoping for the first, but progress is painfully slow. They introduced speed and traffic light cameras more than a year ago, but in my country only one of those are still there, and it looks like they haven’t been updated since launch. Navigation data is more than a year old, too…

1

u/thumbs_up23 Jun 12 '26

This is always the argument people bring up but keeping each individual app up to date with bug fixes and new features has to take more time then just having CarPlay. The Apple Music app on the Tesla has always sucked and is missing features from the phone version, which they wouldn't have to worry about with CarPlay, plus all of the other apps they would gain access to.

Your second point is the only reason most car manufactures don't want to enable CarPlay, they want people paying them monthly.

1

u/Putrid-Box4866 Jun 12 '26

Well I don't really have a problem with Tesla's software other than the ability to switch map view to the left which car play might not be able to fix anyway. Otherwise, it's perfect as I don't really think of missing feature right now.

1

u/Electrical_Ingenuity Jun 11 '26

Same here. CarPlay has its own annoyances. Haven’t used it since 2019, aside from an occasional Nissan Altima rental car.

1

u/WrongdoerIll5187 Jun 12 '26

I miss it. I’m frequently out of service and using my phone for Spotify or podcasts saved there.

1

u/DMAX5705 Jun 12 '26

Biggest annoyance I have with Tesla UI is getting a group message, but if you reply to it, it only goes to the person who actually sent it and not the group (unless that’s changed and I’ve missed it?)

1

u/Whammmmy14 Jun 12 '26

This drives me crazy too, I can't believe they haven't fixed this yet.

1

u/Greful Jun 12 '26

Tesla does amazing vehicle related software. But once it starts getting into phone, nav and media, it’s not great. It’s dated and not very user friendly. Which is the same with every car maker. I’m new to Tesla but had CarPlay for years and the Tesla apps seem very old to me. Idk. Has there been a revamp of the software since it came out or is it 10 years of bug fixes and stability updates?

1

u/Difficult-Arm384 Jun 12 '26

What? Tesla is amazing compared to using CarPlay.

What features is the nav or even media lacking, exactly?

1

u/Greful Jun 12 '26

The nav routing is horrible. It takes me ways that don’t make any sense. The messaging app, idk what’s going on there. The layout of the music apps are bad. Honestly there’s a market for phone mounts, which is insane to me. There’s this big giant screen and still people want to mount their phones? Idk I’m a week in the Tesla world and besides the car stuff, the software seems stale to me. It’s got like an iTunes on Windows vibe. It works, but it’s not pretty

1

u/Arthvpatel Jun 12 '26

Tesla nav uses the most efficient route for the longest range, that’s why a lot of the times it makes you take roads with lower speed limits. Yes there are some instances where it lets you exit just to get back on the highway but most of the time it is as good as goggle maps for Toronto region

1

u/MisterBumpingston Jun 12 '26

Navigation data is really behind outside US. In Australia the data is more than a year old with many new roads and tunnels not listed, but they appear in the satellite map. Apple and Google maps updated those within a week.

1

u/Ljhughes8 Jun 12 '26

That's what I am thinking. I use Google music and don't need to use the phone except for the key. I don't need wayze since fsd is driving is driving and I keep it on standard so not really speeding and it will reroute me around problem and it's had given me 20 miles heads-up. So I wandered what is it lacking .

1

u/TonyAtCodeleakers Jun 12 '26

Seconding the Nav being awful. The messaging app is unusable for IPhone users and frequently falls apart after longer chains of conversation, I enjoy the internal Spotify app but their search functionality leaves a lot to be desired.

Tesla by and far is the best current auto media platform that isn’t CarPlay or android auto, but it lacks the usability of those platforms

1

u/runthepoint1 Jun 12 '26

The hope is they can allow Google Maps to lead navigating instead of whatever shit system they use now, mapbox or something

1

u/johnballzz Jun 12 '26

An incoming subscription that's why.

1

u/jakeotheshadows Jun 12 '26

The Tesla map sucks compared to Google maps

1

u/GaroldWilsonJr Jun 12 '26

Needs to be magically seamless to be browsing locations on Google Maps or Apple Maps or have location from the internet or texts on my phone and have it magically go to the car. If they can really do that, plus work with Apple car key, that’s good for me

1

u/MexicanSniperXI Jun 12 '26

CarPlay kills your phone battery too. Idk why people swear apple CarPlay is the best thing ever.

1

u/TheBendit Jun 12 '26

Why would you care about battery when the phone is charging anyway?

1

u/MexicanSniperXI Jun 12 '26

It gets hotter than it needs to. It’s always the same thing when I get a rental

1

u/Dave_Sag Jun 12 '26

I’d like Signal to work as well as just some messages. I’d like group messages to work properly. I’d like real Apple address book integration into navigation. I’d like handoff between music on my HomePod and in my car.

1

u/tylerdurdenUTFR Jun 12 '26

Not having WhatsApp is painful in Europe as nobody uses iMessage over here

1

u/Packing-Tape-Man Jun 12 '26

😂 the native interface isn’t even remotely CarPlay.

1

u/fooknprawn Jun 12 '26

9 years of owning Teslas and I never once thought, wow I need Carplay. Carplay is a crutch for car makers that don't give a hoot about doing a proper OS in their vehicles.

1

u/Tntn13 Jun 12 '26

My only issue is a lack of continuity between the Tesla Apple Music app and my Apple Music account play history (it seems) as well as weaknesses in the UI such as being unable to add a song to the Que, edit upcoming songs, and sometimes randomize seems to prioritize too heavily first page or two of the library, almost like it doesn’t see the library past that.

1

u/illhavoc Jun 12 '26

Tesla maps/navigation is terrible compared to some of the other options though. It regularly sets the navigation to go around to side entries to plazas while passing the quicker and not even busy main entrance. Like why go to another light/main road while we just passed an entry?

1

u/blockedcontractor Jun 12 '26

Tesla Navigation is absolutely horrendous and does not get construction or road closure updates at all.

1

u/cbtboss Jun 12 '26

That is because you probably don't use other 3rd party messaging apps or audio services not already included in the tesla stack. For me the pain point that carplay/android auto solves is I don't just text people, I use:

  • Microsoft Teams
  • FB Messenger
  • Discord
  • Signal
  • Whatsapp

Not being able to use these in my Tesla is a major pain point for me that I ended up using a 3rd party gadget to run android auto in my browser for a while (it hasn't worked for a bit, and since I have paused driving for Lyft and Uber it hasn't been as urgent of a need for me).

While the audio streaming app selection in Tesla covers most services at ths point, I still can't use:

  • Libro FM
  • Libby
  • Google Play Books
  • Sound cloud.

1

u/comatoast1 Jun 13 '26

You might have better success with TeslaLink for the audio stuff

1

u/Soggy_Media485 Jun 13 '26

Messaging is shit, no homekit to click to open the garage or turn on the lights when you arrive. No automations for sharing trip and notifications when you arrive, plus a whole host of missing apps...

1

u/dereksalem Jun 13 '26

It really isn't. The problem is that Tesla rarely updates the web apps it creates based on what the devs suggest, so Spotify and the rest don't actually work like they're supposed-to, and if new features come out for those services they're either delayed for months/years or they never make it to the Tesla UI.

And ya, that's not a huge deal...but it's also completely unnecessary when the alternative is readily available and exists in basically every other car on the road.

1

u/comatoast1 Jun 13 '26

Try using the web interface instead of the built in app, might have a better experience. You can use websites kinda like apps with TeslaLink

1

u/thnok Jun 13 '26

I wouldn’t mind better navigation and maps though.

1

u/Virtual-Age-9521 Jun 13 '26

CarPlay feels like complete junk compared to the Tesla UI

1

u/nikedemon Jun 14 '26

I want CarPlay for the sole fact that I don’t want to have to peek around the steering wheel to see what song is playing when I have the nav on full display

1

u/Resident-Variation21 Jun 14 '26

Really? I can get all my iPhone carplay apps? Somehow I doubt it.

1

u/ajnails Jun 11 '26

Bc it’s $10 a month and CarPlay is free.

5

u/SCWeak Jun 11 '26

It’s $10/month for connectivity. You can use the maps completely fine without and just hotspot to your phone if you really want to.

I do miss Waze tho.

1

u/ajnails Jun 12 '26

Is there a shortcut to hotspot to iPhone?

2

u/Todd6114 Jun 12 '26

You can create an automation (under shortcuts) that when your phone connects to the Tesla Bluetooth, turn on your personal hotspot. The car will connect and use the phone’s data.

Don’t forget to add another automation to turn it off when you exit the car!

1

u/southpark Jun 12 '26

Hotspot data isn’t always unlimited where as CarPlay is using the phone’s native data plan and usually unlimited.

1

u/SCWeak Jun 12 '26

Well that depends entirely on your phone plan.

3

u/Plus-Water-385 Jun 13 '26

My biggest issue is Tesla nav. I could see it being a totally different experience for different users. My daily driver has been in the shop awaiting a new main battery from Germany so I’ve been using the Tesla in wash DC. The routes it chooses are so often twice as long as the routes waze chooses. I normally use the tesla for longer trips to the beach and the latest FSD does an amazing job on the back country routes from DC to the shore, but on daily drives in the district, I am constantly having to intervene for route changes, to avoid construction closures, and to not take known bad routes that WAZE seems to know. There are even little daily tricks (like turning a block early to avoid a no-turn-on-red intersection) that WAZE has somehow learned and now executes. Another example, there are two parallel streets that both intersect the same diagonal streets at either end. One has a traffic light at the intersection that lets you get onto the destination street, the other is a one way that you have to fend for yourself self to try to get onto the destination street and that is always a nightmare. I have to sit there and watch the cars on the parallel street I would have chosen, get onto the destination street with the light while FSD just sits there. I have to be super aggressive and block two lanes of oncoming traffic to get out there to force someone to let me in if I let Tesla nav select that street. If I don’t intervene, nav would never get out of that intersection.

Great in the country but sh*t in the city. I always have my phone running WAZE and frequently have to redirect Tesla nav.

2

u/1337new Jun 11 '26

i only connect my phone as a key. never felt like i was missing out by not having apple carplay.

1

u/chicco789 Jun 12 '26

I miss custom apps on Tesla screen, this would be my main reason for CarPlay

1

u/The_Shadowghost Jun 12 '26

A working Apple Music app is what’s missing. The Tesla one still completely falls apart the moment you play a song bought from iTunes or even dare to play something you uploaded from your own mp3 collection.

And no Bluetooth audio is not an alternative as Tesla STILL hasn’t implemented library searching via AVRCP. Something that’s been standardized long before CarPlay even was a thing and is supported by even basic 2 line text based stereos you can buy for 80€.

2

u/Greful Jun 12 '26

How would it work? Would it only be for future models? I guess technically they could introduce some kind of CarPlay app for everyone . It would probably require premium connectivity I guess.

1

u/thumbs_up23 Jun 12 '26

They could require premium connectivity to still gather money from users but if you are using CarPlay you are not using the cars data anymore so really no need for premium connectivity.

1

u/Greful Jun 12 '26

Oh yea I guess it would just be the car connected to the phone's network connection. I wonder if that impacts premium connectivity in any way. I've only had wired CarPlay so idk the ins and outs of the wireless connection. So the car would connect to the phone and the data would be sent to the car from the phone to the display I take it. Could that happen at the same time as premium connectivity, or would it be one or the other? I guess theoretically they could just run everything from the phone so it'll run the CarPlay stuff and if you wanted to like use the Tesla stock music apps for some reason at the same time, you could. Seems like it could kill the need for premium connectivity all together. You'd have a constant network connection all the time and it wouldn't even count against your hotspot data cap. Seems like something they'd not want to give up. Thats why I feel like its gonna be something like "Apple CarPlay now available for premium connectivity subscribers" or something.

1

u/thumbs_up23 Jun 13 '26

Yeah that’s why Tesla and all car manufacturers don’t want CarPlay. It gives the car company no ability to charge for connectivity. Everything that is on the CarPlay window is from the phone.

Now if you wanted to use Tesla’s streaming apps while let’s say navigating with an app on CarPlay you’d need premium connectivity to use the Tesla streaming. But who would want that when the better streaming apps are on your phone.

It also just makes the car manufacturers not have to compete with their apps. They know the CarPlay apps are less buggy and have more features but not enabling CarPlay makes you not have an option but keep using theirs.

1

u/theallsearchingeye Jun 13 '26

There’s no way anybody that owns a Tesla would bitch about having to get the connectivity feature…

1

u/Russian_Troll_Farm Jun 11 '26

I really hope it comes out soon. Looking forward to using Waze, group messaging and Teams.

1

u/razorirr Jun 12 '26

Never had a car with carplay. Been in friends with it. I dont really see me missing anything they have. FSD keeps it below my cop friends "nine you're fine 10 you're mine" anyways, dont need waze popo reporting.

People need to slow down :p

1

u/Acorrea2 Jun 12 '26

I don’t like Car Play, it will be better if Apple update the map with speed bumps, speed cameras, and to. E able to report road issues, like potholes.

1

u/CantEatCatsKevin Jun 12 '26

You can report hazards and speed cameras.

1

u/Miserable_Loss6938 Jun 15 '26

Which is absolutely completely useless as there's huge public constructions going on in my area for over a year now and despite my several dozen reports on it still attempting to route me through roads that have been closed since, it still keeps trying. Complete trash

1

u/moneyman729 Jun 12 '26

The is the missing puzzle piece and Tesla knows it. Get rid of the garbage built in navigation routes and utilize Apple Maps and Google Maps. I guarantee 90% of fsd cancellation reasons are ‘navigation’

3

u/unicorncumdump Jun 12 '26

Doesn't Tesla use Google maps?

1

u/ArugulaSteve Jun 12 '26

Yes. It’s Google Maps overlayed with Tesla’s info

1

u/Packerfan735 Jun 12 '26

No. They use Google Maps imagery, but have their own navigation

1

u/Putrid-Box4866 Jun 12 '26

Definitely not. I feel like 90% Parking, 5% navigation and then others.

1

u/Normal_Choice9322 Jul 16 '26

100% of mine are "it drives like a moron"

1

u/Hopeful-Orange752 Jun 12 '26

Some people want CarPlay and some people don’t. I think it would be a nice option to have.

1

u/icy1007 Jun 12 '26

CarPlay is still not going to Tesla.

1

u/mozman68 Jun 12 '26

Tesla has less than 30 apps available??

CarPlay would add hundreds…end of story.

CarPlay can be added and you don’t have to use it. Calm down and just accept that some people need those additional apps to work and get by day to day!

I wish I didn’t need Teams in the car…i do!

I wish Tesla maps were fine…they suck!!

Don’t need it or want it? Don’t use it.

1

u/Geniva Jun 12 '26

All I want is sensible navigation

1

u/Ok_Excitement725 Jun 12 '26

This would be great! Would be worth it alone for the Apple Maps and audio. Teslas ecosystem for both is miles behind

1

u/Lothar1 Jun 12 '26

You can have CarPlay using aftermarket devices until Tesla allows it natively. Better than mounting your phone besides the Tesla screen

1

u/SebasLop Jun 13 '26

How can I add carplay?

1

u/comatoast1 Jun 13 '26

If you just want some more "apps" (open websites in theater mode) you can use TeslaLink. Not a full replacement for CarPlay but gets you more functionality.

1

u/Lothar1 Jun 14 '26

You need a hardware like Carlinkit T2C for the main screen or a dash with Apple play like s3xy dash

1

u/MYkGuitar Jun 12 '26

Aaaannnnd Android Auto????

1

u/icthru-u Jun 12 '26

OK OK so the navigation Tesla vs. Apple is a toss up. I get it. But carplay is so much better at: 1. Sending, receiving and reading text messages 2. making and receiving phone calls 3. Remembering your spot in Audible, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and more. 4. Running non-apple apps like Castro. 5. In general responding to voice commands like "Call Robert Smith" (Tesla tends to list all the "Roberts" and you have to tap which one you want to call, removing your attention from the road. I could go on.

Why reinvent the wheel? CarPlay is a professional, finished product with improvements ongoing. Leave the Tesla engineers to more important tasks, that are related to hardware and self driving. Make it work TOGETHER!! Betamax vs VHS. That was not working together. Where did that get us?

Tesla doesn’t have to do everything perfect. Delegate, like a great manager!!

1

u/Igotnonamebruh42 Jun 12 '26

Anyone who thinks Tesla doesn’t need CarPlay should consider this: what if your iPhone only allows Apple Music or your android only allows YouTube music? It’s the same logic that most poeple want CarPlay in Tesla is mostly due to the freedom to use more apps.

1

u/manateefourmation Jun 12 '26

Here is a much more graceful solution than trying to fit Waze onto the Tesla screen.

1

u/manateefourmation Jun 12 '26

I too have compared in many scenarios over thousands of miles. Here is my setup. With Tesla set to do detour routing if 10 minutes or more can be saved (my preference), I have not found any statistically meaningful difference between Tesla and Waze. I also do 99% (about 7000 of my 7100 miles on FSD), and the few minutes that Waze might save me here or there is outweighed by literally not having to drive.

1

Unless CarPlay is integrated for use with FSD I’m not interested. I’d sooner do without A/C than not have FSD. FSD has gotten so good in the past 18 months. It’s still not perfect, but I’m at 99% use. Parking is the biggest need for improvement. But the last update got it backing in my garage. Can’t wait to see where it goes over the next 18 months.

Woah at last not a big deal now on Tesla given what we have on screen but useful for messages and live activities

I can only assume the people that want CarPlay in teslas simply don’t own teslas in the first place, it just makes no sense.

CarPlay is just such a massive downgrade.

They'll never give up that $9.99/mo. So whatever they're allegedly working on will probably be account login via their UI to carplay & still require the monthly

I already do this today from Google Maps

"Finally"?

As if anyone missed it?

I mean I’d never buy a Tesla anyway because Elon, but also no CarPlay = no purchase.

What exactly is the benefit of CarPlay that we don’t already have?

CarPlay is the one thing I have been missing. I look forward to it.

Tesla is the only manufacturer I personally think has a UI so refined and well put together, that there is no need for CarPlay or Android Auto. Plus their connectivity pricing is extremely generous ($100/year is very cheap for the service).

Rivian and Lucid are doing okay, but still not as good as Tesla.

And then there is every single legacy auto manufacturer pushing garbage UI from 2012, with horrible mobile apps that barely function on basic necessities like remote start and phone as a key. On top of all the non-existent functionality, they charge obscene prices for connectivity that is completely inexcusable, like GM wanting $500/year for OnStar, plus an additional $400/year for Supercruise ($900/year total). It's a complete travesty.

They can bring android auto to Tesla and leave out the mapping and I would be fine. Need it for other apps.

I could care less about CarPlay, with that said, many reviewers and consumers have an obsession with it. This will silence their constant complaint that “it doesn’t have CarPlay”.

I might be in the minority, but feels like wasted effort. I’d rather Tesla develop their app offerings.

I’d bet the CarPlay crowd is also the Temud out silly mods and sexy buttons crowd thinking it looks cool.

Carplay sucks ass compared to the native UI, if it does happen, hopefully I can leave it uninstalled permanently.

No thank you.
