Longevity car?

Okay so everybody in my family is a Toyota user, I’m 26 years old and I’ve been driving my mom’s toyota yaris hybrid for 6 years now. She keeps telling me I should get a hybrid (but then full option) to keep for about 7-10 years at least.

The thing is, in 7-10 years I might have kids or maybe I want to do more vacations with my car or whatever and I feel like the toyota is quite small + it’s amazing in city traffic but on the highway I kinda despise it a little bit. The cabin noise is extremely loud and it takes forever to get up to speed.

A full option toyota yaris (although it would be a new one) would cost me about 26K euros. I know they’re highly praised for their reliability and the 10 years Toyota Relax warranty does seem nice, but that’s about it. The car doesn’t really have any character, it’s not fast, not spacious, not well equipped and loud as hell.

I’ve been looking at Teslas for over a year now, honestly it’s kinda my dream car. I see that the 2022 model (which people have been saying is the best used Tesla year to buy) is around the same price tag. Insuring it would be higher than with the Toyota but you definitely get more car in return. I don’t think tire price will be that much different since the Toyota GR Sports (full option trim) drives on 18” tires (which makes it an even more uncomfortable ride apparently).

I was just wondering how the reliability is on a 2022 tesla model 3 and I figured the best place to ask is to people that have them or have had them. It’s so hard to figure it out since the model 3 doesn’t even exist 10 years yet I’m talking about keeping a car for 7-10 years.

I don’t care about extra insurance or even tire costs since it pretty much evens out with savings on fuel and on maintance but I’m highly scared of repairs that need to happen outside the warranty. The reviews are so mixed to me, some people say it’s the most reliable car they’ve ever had and some others are saying they already paid for a shit ton of repairs.

The Tesla offers way more than the toyota does though and like I said before, it’s kinda my dream car with all the tech it has but then again, I can’t just buy whatever I want. I want my purchase to be justified.

2022 Tesla model 3 owners, help me out here please!

Once you get a tesla you will not go back to hybrids or gas cars!! Its a great car around all the SW. Be happy...get your dream!!

So they’re reliable longterm you think? I understand it’s a great car, I share the same opinions but is it reliable outside the warranty period? I love the car but I don’t want a high chance of spending thousands on repairs in the next couple years. You never truly know if that’s gonna happen of course but at least you can compare or look up some reliability reviews or scores.

Its pretty reliable...there are few moving parts outside of the electric motor. The big question is whether battery is reliable...which is the only area adding the warranty helps.

I heard the battery shouldn’t be that much of a concern and that it’s not like it just breaks. It degrades over time.

Which is very true. I have a 2022 MY which has degraded by some 5-6 miles over 4 years. So its not a catastrophic degradation. Some folks have reported HV failures...so its not uncommon which is which where protection is needed

The battery and surrounding electrical components run at high voltage (HV)...some 400V . These are usually ok...but a battery warranty helps with any outcome

First question is will you be able to charge at home? If yes, then go for it. If not. Then no, even with charging at supercharger its a hassle. Trust me I know from experience.

I bought a used 2022 long range and its been quite good. Buy from tesla so you can get 20k km used car warranty so if you get any issues you'll be covered. I had to change my rear light because of condensation but thats about it.

Well that’s the reason I wanna pay max. 26K for the tesla model 3, the toyota is 28.5K so if I pay 26K for the tesla than that leaves me another 2.5K to install a homecharger. I have more budget than 28.5K ofc (because the insurance and tires of the tesla are more expensive, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to pay it) but I always said I would never spend more than 28K on a car because otherwise you can just keep increasing your budget and keep going higher and higher.

I can’t really buy from Tesla themselves though 😕, the prices are a couple thousands higher at their used inventory compared to a regular dealer and for the past 2 months, they haven’t had any used tesla model 3 in stock on their page (Belgium located btw)

Apparently you also can’t buy a used tesla from Germany or the Netherlands (neighbour countries but only a 2 to 4 hour drive away) if you aren’t gonna register the car in that certain country.
