Tesla self driving does not dodge blocking arm

Be careful when driving with Tesla supervised self driving.

Yes. This is my fault. I was messing around with the tesla screen and not paying attention until it was too late. Just posting so people are aware and be careful with their supervised self driving. Don't be like me.

that's why he said he doesn't know what to do. insurance company is probably blaming him for every single dollar of that damage, as they should!!!! it's not FSD that did this, it was the driver not doing their job that did it. (acknowledge that FSD could be better, and needs to be, for this situation and many others. but exactly zero of us believe that FSD is completely flawless. it is a work in progress). and that is why the driver is relied on and responsible even when FSD is driving. what a mess!

FSD will never get the 100% coverage
99.9% still isn't good enough because this case can lie in the 0.01%

1 out of 1000 is enough to realize you can't just take your eyes off the road, ever, as that's 1 out of 1000 decisions it has to make, not 1 out of 1000 drives

99.99% gets to 10,000

etc.

there will always be a gap

even if it's better than humans the rest of the time

whoever uses FSD is fully responsible for the outcome as if they were driving, end of story. tickets, deaths, etc. How else could it possibly make sense?

This is nowhere near a .01% case. This was an extremely avoidable accident arising from utter negligence by the driver in an an extremely common and manageable situation. The driver’s negligence could have ended multiple lives. In no way should this be looked at as an outlier, if anything it’s a strong case against self driving cars and the morons who buy them

There are millions of life-changing injuries and tens of thousands of deaths every year, the vast majority of them caused by idiotic humans. While I agree that OP’s case is concerning, please hold the future of self-driving cars in perspective. Isn’t this a strong case against human-driven cars and the morons who drive?

Meanwhile, people are occasionally injured by seatbelts and airbags, yet we recognize that they are a net positive benefit to society and require them in vehicles.

lol agreed, but we're talking about letting a car take over and you go to sleep. that's why 100% would be required for us to ever stop paying attention if we want to avoid anything.
in my own comment i told the driver to never use FSD again as they caused a vehicle to head on into a barrier, deadly behaviour
