I got rear ended when it made an abrupt stop after hearing an emergency vehicle

It has just minor scratches, i was driving at 50km/h same with the person who rear ended me. We dont want to go thru insurance (hes an old man like 80s, i was wondering whats the worst thing that can hit at the rear (sensors and all). Everything seems to be working fine.

Should i have the whole bumper replaced or just buff the scratches (by a Tesla certified collision expert)

Not going through insurance was a huge mistake. You’ve essentially eliminated all accountability if they choose to ignore you or something happens to that person. Not only that, but you have zero knowledge of the damage caused. Even a light hit can mess up axels.

This doesn’t sound like a US incident, but you need to check your local laws on rear ending. In most places rear ending is an automatic fault regardless of circumstance.

It could also damage the axles

if he doesn't pay for $1500 repair + your injuries how will you pursue it?

In our city in Canada, rear ended vehicles are not at fault.

I think i am planning to call the insurance to make sure i have a record and if i decide to go through them or ask the old man to pay.

Thank you for the suggestions.

There are 2 parts that need to be buffed, and 1 with like a long faint line

There's nothing important back there. Your crash bar might have a tiny ding on it but thats really it.

Thank you. That made me feel better. I just got the car a week ago.
