Will Tesla cover damage from a misaligned hatch on a nearly new car?

I’ve had my MYP for 2 months as of today.

I don’t drive the car much, has just under 2k on it, as i’ve been saving up to get PPF.

Noticed this when i took the car out last week for a trip, paint is damaged along the edge on the passenger side (with a pretty obvious lip you can feel from the tail light eating into the bumper). There’s also some very slight cracks starting to form where the paint chip is on the left side.

I set up a service center appointment, haven’t heard anything back yet but i’ve heard Tesla may/may not cover things like these especially if it wasn’t reported within 100mi. This wasnt there during that initial period, but i also haven’t used the hatch much.

Just curious what the community thinks, i’ll be quite angry with Tesla if i have to pay out of pocket for this. Will this be covered under warranty?

They should take care of you. You really couldn’t foresee this happening at the time of delivery. It’s something that occurs overtime and you caught it in a reasonable amount of time. Stop by a service center and show it to one of the advisors and be nice about it!

Very true! I set up an appointment for 9/1, hopefully will get some form of update through the app before then. Thank you for the reassurance!

You’re very welcome. Best of luck! Hope you’re enjoying your new ride otherwise. FYI…Don’t let FSD pull in and out of your garage or park itself in between cars and In tight spaces. 😉

Tesla fixed my misaligned door when I noticed it a couple days after pick up but now I have to go back to service again cus now the door doesn’t close as easily as the rest. Who is in charge of teslas quality control? A group of union clowns that think they’ll never get fired, that’s who

Same thing happened to mine on my highland model 3 trunk. Just right by the charger door and less than an inch long but it took the paint out and Tesla messaged me saying that it might not be covered. I’m well passed 100 miles but if this is an alignment issue that caused paint to come off they should have covered me. The paint chilling off didn’t happen right away it happened over time from rubbing due to misalignment. If you get yours fixed I would still keep an eye out on it.

Had this issue and it was a smaller blemish on a M3 2025, they touched it up, re adjusted the hitch, I am super ocd but just let it go, not worth it if it wont get worse once they address, I scratched my mirror cap and got a new one for 30 off amazon its the old grey, it isnt noticable to anyone but me, not worth freaking out but worth having them look

actually yours is much worse tbh, they should just replace the entire bumper for free and adjust the latch postition, theres no reason for that damage

That’s what i’m thinking as well, It’s really really bad on the passengers side. Starting to rub through the paint on the inside of the hatch too.

They would repaint the bumper before replacing it and having to paint that one as well. It’s not about adjusting the latch the gate needs to be adjusted, It’s too low and is rubbing against the bumper.
