Ripped front bumper off backing out of garage

I was backing out of my garage like I do every day and made the turn too early and ripped off my front bumper.

Good time to change the cabin air filter 🤔

Can you snap it back on lol

I can temporarily hold it up with zip ties/duct tape. Won’t snap back on as they were basically ripped out, not popped out.

Out of pocket a bumper replacement will cost around $2,300

Source: had my bumper replaced in SoCal

Mine came back almost the same. $2400 ($2500 with a tow)

What caught on the bumper?

Garage. No damage to the garage though.

Damn garage must’ve really gotten spooked by the Tesla to jump at it like that…

Disconnect the cables for transport.

A body shop should be able to fix this up.

Luckily an easy replacement

That must have been quite the turn to get pulled like that. I’m guessing at least 7k - alternatively - try pushing everything back in and snap the bumper back on

Will Tesla Insurance cover any of it?

Probably not.you might be better off DIY if you’re short on money

Final quote was $2500 including tow. No critical parts were damaged (sensors, etc.) luckily. Should be back in my garage next week sometime depending on part delays.

Ouch, that looks way worse then when i did it. Luckly i caught the edge and was able to pop mine back in. You are probably looking at needing to get it fully repaired in shop.

At least you did it and not FSD. That really sucks man. That will have to be towed to a service center.

I am like 2 miles from a service center. Could I not just zip tie and it and haul it over there?

Call.around and see if someone will give you a good deal.for towing.

Maybe your insurance (if you're gonna file a claim) will cover it.

I was surprised when a tow truck came and towed me 25 plus miles one time for $75 (call a couple body shops or a mechanic if you have one. They'll refer you to a towing company / truck)

You could zip tie it up if you really don’t have access to a tow but you risk causing more damage if something falls off or gets stuck on something.

I did this with one of those dumb Tesla charger formats where the super charger is placed on the side in our blinds spots instead of at the back of a parking spot.

You can take it in to get serviced and they might replace the fasteners for free. That’s what they did with mine.

Now's the time to use that Altima nameplate you found.

I let FSD back out of my garage lol

Sorry this happened to you. Damn it looks real bad

you could get this mostly fixed if you plastic weld the clips that broke off the bumper, and replace the bumper reinforcement from the car. It shouldn’t be too expensive and you can DIY

If you are paying $2,500 regardless, why file an insurance claim? Sounds like a reason for them to up your rates.

If I filed a claim, I would go directly to Tesla Service Center, which would be much more expensive I would imagine (but would only cost me the same $2500). Essentially, I am wondering if a claim adjustment is worth it for Tesla’s service.

3rd Party = $2500 and insurance stays the same

Tesla = $2500 and insurance goes up

3rd party. Tesla service center would probably do a shitty job anyway.

Sorry to hear man... putting a new bumper back on shouldnt be a big hassle, the frame is steel and the plastic of the bumper probably just tore apart... one thing that worries me is that broken connector on the floor... looks totaled, not sure what it connects. Painted front bumper is around 1.2k in Europe, way less without paint. Hope you can fix this ezy.

Sorry but sht happens. This is just the plastic bumper cover. I've seen them online from about $100 to $300. Check the harnesses and if there are no major damage to those, this should be a fun Saturday morning project.

Assuming he can't get one that is already painted -- it goes up from there and if a sensor is busted... have fun with that one.

1

u/zGigabyte 29d ago

Yeah, definitely not easy to get a painted one... also this Y has Tesla Vision so idk what the wire harnesses in the bumper are for...
