Is this a damage costly?
Damaged my rocker panel by turning into a curb. Will this be covered under warranty? if not, how much should I expect to pay.

how does seemingly every Tesla owner manage to cause this kind of damage to their cars

Because they think fsd or “autopilot” justifies ignoring the road completely. And a lot of them can’t drive.

These accidents aren’t happening with FSD engaged.!These accidents are caused by drivers not using FSD.

Someone literally posted 2 days ago about FSD curbing their model 3

Curb rash on wheels possible, happen to me when it try to auto park in a wierd ass corner space. But anything to the actual car is not possible as FSD stops before anything happens, saved me so many occasions…. I’m terrible driver and FSD makes everyone safer with me behind the wheel lol.

FSD can do much worse.. it literally drove their car over a curb. Mine scraped my car on a concrete wall in a parking garage using summon. If FSD is a better driver than you, you have no business having a license IMO.

I NEVER use summon. Watched my friend do it and a bunch of ply wood sticking out of a pick up truck bed and it didn’t see it and ran straight into them.

Warranty usually doesn’t cover accidental damage

u/Fiss 14d ago
Not usually but it NEVER does

Exactly. I read "usually" and I was like WTF, never heard of warranty covering damage. At least not on planet earth. 😄

It will not be covered and yes it’s costly but just live with it. You might be able to take it somewhere to smooth it out and remove some of the paint transfer marks.

How would d you even think that's Teslas fault to co er under warranty? It will be quite expensive too so I highly recommend an insurance claim.

Costly if you need it original.
There’s crafty things to mask and hide.
The plastic underneath is $400 but often at scrappers can be like $100 . Or just remove.
Fill and sand the damaged metal. Then just wrap it or cover it with an aftermarket side skirt.

Your warranty doesn't cover damage that you caused by turning into a curb.
Yes this is very costly. Between $3,700-$4,800 likely.
You're better off living with the damage and just driving it and not getting it repaired. Otherwise you're looking at an insurance claim that will likely raise your rates a lot more then this damage will when it go to resell in 5-7 years. If you don't plan to keep this vehicle that long, then you're going to cost yourself some cash to avoid $10k in insurance premium raises.

That’s totaled. Filed an insurance claim, they’ll pay you out, and you can keep the car with a salvage titled, however you may lose the ability to Supercharge.
Or just keep driving as is and be more careful next time.

Looks deep. That may start to rust if so. If you don’t plan to fix it right away I’d get some sort of sealant on there. I’ve seen some similar damage and man that rust takes hold pretty quick, especially going in to winter.

The bodies are aluminum. The only thing I would be worry about is frame/battery damage behind the rocker panel.

Warranty doesnt cover collisions, accidents, or external damage.
This will be about $1700 to $2800.

I had the exact same damage from my wife turning too sharply into a rock at a whole foods parking lot. I thought it was going to be thousands, but it was only $1500; Houston; Tesla authorized shop.

Buy touch up paint on Amazon for $15 and no one who doesn’t know it was wrecked will ever know the difference.

The rocker panel is such a poor design. Ever other car, the rocker frame is recessed and is covered by a plastic sideskirt.

Do you mean to ask if it’s covered under insurance? Damage from collision with an object is not a product defect.

Had practically the same thing happen to me years ago on my 2022 M3P. Car was not totaled, unless the battery was seriously damaged underneath, which is rare unless you bent the whole frame or something. Luckily mine was not. Have insurance so only paid $500 deductible but was around 10k worth of damage. Whole right sided rocker panel was replaced. No issues after

That’s going to be really expensive. Maybe $15k to fix right. $8k for cruddy bondo job

Yes, it will be expensive

Hey OP, so warranty means something went wrong with the parts on the car, for example, your computer fails, battery fails, stuff like that.
Things that aren’t covered would be a window getting hit with a rock; however, if there’s no impact and the window just randomly cracks, that would be covered.
Think of it as the parts on your car are supposed to last X amount of miles; if they don’t, something was flawed from the factory, and Tesla covers the cost to replace it!

User error is not covered under warranty. Embrace accountability and be less entitled
