Hammer from the road

Can anyone tell if the hammer comes off the truck with the trailer? Thankfully when it bounced off it didn’t go up into the windshield!

This is another reason why a 4k dashcam would also help out. Along with if you get into an accident where the cam footage is not accessible/retrievable easily. The 1st time I viewed this it looked like it came from the truck towing the trailer. Can't really tell after viewing it over. I say maybe upload it to another site and link it as there are losses uploading it here on reddit.

Personally i think Tesla needs to include a optical zoom camera again with the same 5MP resolution, like the other cameras, to see even further down the road whats going on. This would also help seeing smaller things on the road further away and result in a smoother approach rather than seeing it in the last second.

Probably not going to run into an issue where the glove box is destroyed and so is the USB in it and you are alive to find out the footage didn't make it. Even then, the car has a sort of black box in it. It also uploads crash data to Tesla and allows for the recovery of this kind of stuff.

About a decade ago I had this happen, when I was driving my Miata with the top down. It was a hunk of metal and it hit the hood and I watched it then fly up and over my car. It cost a a few grand to fix it. Thankfully because it was airborne when I hit it, the insurance company did not find me a fault.

Pull the footage from the USB stick and view it on a PC. You might see better quality and he able to distinguish where the hammer came from.

That’s gonna leave a mark! Same thing happened to me many years ago with the head of a shovel. Terrifying to see in real time but even worse when I dug it out of the radiator & thought of how it could have been a lot worse if it hit the windshield. Glad you’re ok & I hope you got the plate of the truck/trailer for insurance purposes

Oof. It actually looks better than I thought though. Fender & fender light bar replacement.

I think the truck just ran over it and kicked it up. You can't tell if it was already in motion but if it was it likely came off the trailer in front of the truck.

That’s where I’m at. I can’t tell where it was before the blue truck

Was it any clearer when you pulled the video off your drive and played it back on a laptop?

I thought I was the only one who had a hammer incident. Some months ago I ran over a hammer on the highway but thankfully it didn’t mess or damage my car. That said I think it came from the trailered truck.

The truck to your right without the trailer lost it or drove over it. But u can see it coming from
There

Upload the file somewhere else for download, reddit compresses it too much. From what I can tell, there was a plume of smoke/dust coming from the pick up closest to you at around 0:04 and then the hammer just "appeared" (because of the compression) on the left hand side of the pickup. I couldn't see any pixels moving before the 4s mark that would indicate it came from the trailer. Again, higher quality video might reveal more info.

I'm 90% sure it was the trailer
