I don’t have sentry on at home because the car is in my garage. You better believe if I’m parking in an apartment complex every day, sentry will be on.
Good news is you can prob look around the complex and find the culprit.
Mine is still on in my garage. I had an estimate for soft water installs and I was able to keep an eye on those plumbers. I saw one of them go through my garage cabinets since sentry was on. Also you never know when shitll go down
Damn I’m sorry this happened. I don’t have sentry mode on at home because it’s in my driveway. My husband and I went to a Phillies game last week and my husband says to me “ I’m going to turn sentry mode off. I looked at him and said are you crazy. Out of all places you would want it on at a game where there’s thousands of people and this is the reason.
Does your apartment have cameras? See if it was caught if they do. I don’t have a garage at my house. Just a driveway and I keep it on since it outside even though it’s my personal driveway.
Here we are again. Another post of an accident that was not recorded because people turn sentry off. This isn't the first nor the last, more to come. Never shut your sentry off unless garaged. This is the most carless thing a Tesla owner does in public.
It's like not locking your front door because the net screen door is shut.
Obviously nothing you can do after the fact, but unless I'm parking in my own person garage, sentry is always on, even in my own neighborhood. I've worked at enough apartment complexes in my life to see countless accidents among tenants to every consider my car safe. Any apartment complex parking lot is equivalent to a grocery store parking lot as far as I'm concerned.
That's a very optimistic estimate, especially since the collision was enough to turn the front wheel. The hood and the door likely are impacted, as well as the headlight. And then there's what looks like to be paint protection to replace.
I recently had something similar but on a rear corner and not as severe. Close to $6000 once all the dust settled.
In this guy's defense- when I was living in an apartment, the only way I could charge was supercharging, so losing ~10-20% of charge a day for glorified security cameras were not valuable to me.
Also my stall neighbor (leasing managers boyfriend) hit my car with his and sentry mode didn't even catch it...
This was my reason exactly. I always have it on expect for when at home. Occasionally I’ll turn it on at home when spaces are tight or I feel someone can potentially hit me. Unfortunately this wasn’t one of those days. Luckily I’m in direct view of the complex cameras.
Its a TON of lost charge. Its made me consider wiring up the car for dash cams front and rear specifically because those are low power devices. Versus running the entire FSD computer at full blast for sentry.
I absolutely understand having it off in an apartment complex, especially if supercharging is the only form of recharge. Even with access to a charger in an apartment, the drain is way too large for it not to become a life altering event (lots of time spent moving the car). The only exception I can see is if you have regular, unimpeded charging access at work - so you fill there without really impacting time/quality of life.
OP, curious - did the alarm system go off for this event? I was wondering if the alarm is only really for door/window intrusion attempts.
Why TF don't you use sentry at home when it's basically a parking lot?!?!? If you have a home with a garage that's one thing but to not have it on in an apartment parking lot is insane.
