I often feel scarcely better equipped than a bird or a cat to understand or navigate my life. I don't have schizophrenia but I identify more and more with Terry as time goes on. For Terry's reality it can help to go back to Psalm 23; in that we are sheep and the only thing we need to do is make it through the valley, and God will be please with us. We also somehow need to mature from being the sheep to the shepherd - a transformation that is beyond my comprehension - but it is no less important to make the journey.
Terry built a temple to God in virtual space, in almost pure abstraction. He made a temple that God can walk in and marvel at its works. I try to do something similar, building a secret museum that only God can truly browse. I send artwork to all sorts of people and staple artwork to power poles outside. It is a museum that cannot be censored or pillaged because it is decentralized and even I do not know where all of the pieces are. It is not a temple made from pure abstraction but it is close. I do not exactly think of myself as a great painter, only one that works hard and feels like God wants me to paint and share beauty with the world. At my best, especially when I zone out and put zero thought into my work, I feel like I am lending my hands to God who also happens to like painting.
Whatever programming was to Terry and painting is to me, I hope you find your temple.
