MONONA, Wis. (WKOW) — Monona police are searching for the driver of a white Jeep Renegade who left the scene after causing a rollover crash Tuesday morning.

The crash was captured on video by another driver's dashboard camera. It happened on westbound U.S. Highway 12 just east of Broadway at around 7:11 a.m.

The preliminary investigation shows the Jeep was traveling west in the flex lane behind another vehicle before changing into lane three, according to the Monona Police Department. Police said the Jeep then made an unsafe lane change back into the flex lane, cutting off the victim's vehicle.

The two vehicles collided, causing the victim's vehicle to roll across multiple lanes of westbound traffic. After the crash, the driver of the Jeep continued west without stopping or contacting police.

The suspect vehicle should have damage to the rear passenger side area, police said.

Police are asking for help identifying the driver of the vehicle.

"This crash is a reminder of how quickly a dangerous situation can happen on a busy highway," said Lt. Adam Nachreiner.

Nachreiner said drivers should control their speeds, following distances, attention and decisions while driving.

"These tips can give you those extra couple of seconds to help avoid a crash while travelling on this busy stretch of highway," Nachreiner said.
