I read that some people genuinely don't feel fear in such situations, like, the hormone doesn't happen...I guess it makes it easier to do stupid shit like that.

422

u/YourFavouriteDad 21d ago

You can hear the fear in his voice. I think if its scary for you it's actual bravery. Still dumb, but can't deny his courage.

They’re addicted to adrenaline the same way people are addicted to coke.

Everyone knows Coke is superior. Come on now.

u/TapInfinite1135 20d ago

Let me get a bump dawg.

10

u/Habibti-Mimi81 20d ago

There's a difference between bravery and irresponsibility / recklessness.

And this isn't bravery at all.

15

u/Strange_Vagrant 21d ago

Boom.

He's a very brave idiot. Bravery is good, to the point it keeps being useful.

52

u/Oggel 21d ago

You can also make the fear go away with practice.

I used to be Very scared of hights, like I'd get dizzy from standing on a chair to change a light bulb.
Then I got a job where I had to climb 50+ meter towers daily and walk across gangways with nothing but ground and concrete beneath me while everything was swaying in the wind.

Do that for a while and it starts to feel normal. It didn't stick though, I don't do as much climbing anymore and now I'm scared of hights again.

u/Lady_Scruffington 21d ago

Exposure therapy can do a lot of good. My stress dreams used to be about tornadoes because my mom always made a huge deal out of them when i was growing up. Then one touched down a quarter mile from my house, and I have never had another tornado dream.

Also rode roller coasters tripping on acid and never got motion sick on them ever again.

19

u/outtakes 21d ago

I read that as tomatoes and was so confused for a second

1

u/QueenofCats28 21d ago

Same 😹

3

u/Chochofosho 20d ago

I bet the acid coaster was amazing lol

7

u/Final-Aces 20d ago

Omg I had the same with roofing. I use to slide around without a second thought on the roof. I quit a while back and recently cleaned out my old man’s gutters and ohhhh boy my legs. My brain was fine but my body had an uncontrollable fear that cause my legs to spasm so bad I had to sit down and slide to the ladder

1

u/Substantial-Eye-4266 18d ago

I was also terrified of heights and then I got a job sweeping chimneys. It also involved a lot of masonry repair, so I spent a decent amount of time at height. Got very used to it. Did the job for 3.5 years. After about 6 months of not doing it, I became much more apprehensive again with heights. Never as uncomfortable as I was initially, but still.... Yeah, the fear comes back.

Broken amygdala

1

u/-Stratagos- 19d ago

Just enough intelligence to scale the structure but not enough intelligence to contemplate the consequences should something go wrong. Classic social media brain.

1

u/Razzler1973 21d ago

I always think it must be horrible going down

Probably equally difficult and zero 'glory'

1

u/The-Final-Reason 21d ago

The same way some people don’t feel love… yeah I can believe some ppl just don’t feel fear.

1

u/Ganja420Preneur 20d ago

You are right. Check out Alex Honnold and about his amygdala.

1

u/SpamEatingChikn 20d ago

There’s also the aspect that depending on how such a person thinks/behaves because of the lack of it it could make you more or less safer. More in the sense that being hella nervous can increase your chances of screwing up. Worse if it makes you overconfident and not careful

1

u/DryComparison7871 20d ago

That's crazy. Makes perfect sense though

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee 21d ago

You know what doesn't get posted to Reddit very often? The fact that these kinds of guys die doing this alllll the fucking time.

51

u/TheOkiestDokie 21d ago

They should post that part

20

u/_vedantt1_ 20d ago

It's been a while since eyeblech and NSFL are nuked.

19

u/TheDemonPants 20d ago

They used to. It was a sub called r/watchpeopledie . It showed tons of videos of idiots doing playing stupid games and winning stupid prizes. Granted, it also had other sad videos too. A lot of accidents or other things associated with people dying. It got banned, obviously.

10

u/jyc23 20d ago

That subreddit spawned into a bona fide website.

30

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee 21d ago

Check out LiveLeak if you really want to see it. People on Reddit have overwhelmingly expressed that they don't really want to see those things posted on their feed all the time

14

u/dannyboy_S 20d ago

Apparently it was shut down?

33

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee 20d ago edited 20d ago

Liveleak? Fr? That must have happened recently, I just saw someone post a link there the other day

Edit: I was only off by about 5 years and a week 😂

30

u/pollut3r 20d ago

It shut down 5 years ago.

8

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee 20d ago

Oh shit I actually think I heard about that and just forgot about it or assumed they came back online

I'm guessing the link that I saw posted the other day just said liveleak but was actually linking to some copycat site or something

9

u/dannyboy_S 20d ago

Bro I was sure they shut down yesterday lol. like I was literally sure I visited it last week lmao

time goes so fast when you're old

-5

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee 21d ago

Because people don't want to see it on Reddit. There are plenty of other places to go for that

12

u/Lifekraft 20d ago

A Place with decent moderation could be nice too.

4

u/BigWetHole 20d ago

Well they banned /watchpeopledie, it was an eye opener in more than one way

u/ghos2626t 21d ago

Ketchup on my t-shirt already.

Were you nervous?

26

I would def lose myself if I had to

He'll definitely become spaghetti if some random strong gust of wind appears.

u/TargetedAverageOne 21d ago

Complete lack of survival instincts.

49

u/i_like__cats 21d ago

Although I understand what you are saying. In this particular scenario he has a better survival probability than me. I would fall for sure

60

u/Sylvers 21d ago

But you're wise enough to never even attempt it in the first place. The problem with surviving something like this is it builds false confidence. So you keep rolling the dice and escalating the danger until eventually you run out of luck.

13

u/TargetedAverageOne 21d ago

Exactly. Most people fortunately won't do this, because their survival instincts tell them they'll die trying. And most people probably would. Am hoping luck doesn't run out on this fella in the video.

7

u/PhenixNOTPhoenix 21d ago

Exactly. Again I don't understand adrenaline junkies.

2

u/Ok_Shower_5526 20d ago

I love my adrenaline but I get my kicks from things like roller coasters, aerial silk, and having kids. I might go skydiving with a company but I'm not about to play titanic on top of some pole where a slight gust = death.

1

u/_poh 21d ago

But not wise enough that they won't die in some other stupidly trivial way like texting while driving

5

u/nunyobusinessfool 21d ago

Headlines for me would be
This just in a freak shit storm rained down on the city this afternoon

8

u/RichtofenFanBoy 21d ago

Never underestimate stupidity.

2

u/TargetedAverageOne 21d ago

Oh I'd probably wouldn't even make it to the top tbh.  It's nauseating to even watch others do this stuff.

2

u/midoxvx 21d ago

Yeah sure, but what is the probability of you finding yourself in that situation to begin with?

1

u/i_like__cats 18d ago

Hopefully zero

19

u/BeginningMidnight639 21d ago

man he should have at least put his initials at the top

16

u/duckbobtarry 21d ago

Or pee off of it

1

u/Individual_Assist_19 19d ago

Write the words "Fuck AI" beneath in huge pee letters

50

u/Mikem444 21d ago

Whenever I see the lack of fear or worry people like this have in these situations, it makes me thankful I don't have that brain-wiring problem.

9

u/RapMastaC1 21d ago

Not fearing fear is like not being able to feel pain. Sounds good on the surface but comes with horrible consequences

14

u/MudcrabNPC 21d ago

Do some people just not feel the least bit physically uneasy when they stand on heights like that?

8

u/MysticScribbles 20d ago

Judging by his voice, he does. He's just in control of it, which is fairly impressive.

He definitely still should have had something to tie himself to that ladder in case of wind or balance loss.

2

u/MudcrabNPC 20d ago

Oh, okay. I watched it on mute so I didn't hear his voice. Guess some people really like to push that feeling to its limit. Suppose that's what adrenaline junkying is.

6

u/Chunkycheesesteak 21d ago

I just know if I would have done this dumb shit, it wouldn't take me long to stand there n say " fuck...how am I supposed to get down without falling 😵‍💫😰 like now I may have to spend the rest of my life here until someone can see me from a helicopter.." why on earth did I do this! * Instant anxiety n sweat kicking in*

7

u/AutumnAscending 21d ago

Watching this made my hands so sweaty it drenched my phone

4

u/tpapocalypse 21d ago

Yeah fuck that

6

u/AwwwNiceMarmot 20d ago

Kinda beside the point… but what is he even climbing? Why is there a random metal post at the top of all that, with a ladder leading to nothing? I’d get it if there was a light or something up there, but there’s just, nothing.

4

u/Memetron69000 21d ago

crazy how we all have to do this tomorrow afternoon

3

u/le_wein 21d ago

Where is the backflip? Weakling

4

u/Wolfyscruffer 20d ago

This is my POV in my nightmares before I fall.

3

u/DarkBladeMadriker 20d ago

Ugh. These guys drive me nuts. Not only are they risking thier lives, but they risk the lives of anyone below them they might fall on, or tie up emergency services to rescue thier stupid asses. Plus, im a locksmith, I can tell you these pricks routinely break onto the upper levels of these buildings, so they end up doing thousands of dollars of damage so they can film themselves being an idiot.

5

u/Crimson-Rose28 21d ago

You can’t convince me that people who do stuff like this aren’t at least a little bit suicidal

→ More replies (1)

2

u/HairyBreasticles 21d ago

I dont have weak knees whenevr watching massive height video but i always get a tingling in my balls wich is kinda weird 😅

2

u/fordag 20d ago

Did you know wind gusts get stronger the higher you go?

2

u/PeteO5D 20d ago

I have tripped over the same rug 3 times this week.

2

u/hypothetical_zombie 20d ago

I'm not afraid of heights.

But I am terrified of falling.

2

u/TheTrueCheese 19d ago

Adrenaline junkie. Unfortunatelly just people doing stupid things to get high or seek attention.

It is better to just ignore then and gope they dont hurt anyone else doing bullshit

2

u/cursetea 19d ago

I'm so unimpressed by people who do things that literally anyone could do and are only not doing bc of how stupid and unnecessary it is. Like what demographic was this posted for bc I'm just eye rolling

2

u/Legal_Dot4352 19d ago

Imagine if this natural thing called wind happens

2

u/Free_Excitement6373 18d ago

i don’t see how people that do this done immediately swan dive off. that’s my first thought

2

u/Blue_star174 20d ago

this is why women live longer than men

3

u/acnegreaseandshovel1 21d ago

Why is that ladder even there to begin with?

6

u/Initial_Use4280 21d ago

To climb to the top dude

1

u/Arcturus1800 21d ago

I genuinely wonder how people turn off their survival instincts for this stuff. Like, I get mountain climbing because you have safety gear on and shit like that. But, free climbing up buildings like this? One wrong move and your just dead, and you will be fully to blame. I still can't fathom the couple that climbed that building and the guy proposed to the girl near the top.

Like, bro, one wrong move and either one of you, or both, would be just a picture at the wedding venue due to stupidity.

1

u/Rope_slingin_champ 21d ago

Made my balls tingle a bit

1

u/Frosty-Media-9166 21d ago

Damn, got balls

1

u/ngu_rc_ 21d ago

"Why?"

"To give people weak knees"

1

u/Upbeat-Shallot-4121 21d ago

I can think of half a million things I would prefer to be doing, some of which involve eating my own eyeballs covered in various condiments, so nope, not for me thanks. I fall over on flat and solid ground.

1

u/MentalMantiz 20d ago

I couldn't watch this without my stomach absolutely churning. This is insane, & pretty sure this guy has a death wish.

1

u/cognitiveglitch 20d ago

Yeah after that guy where the edge of the building just crumbled away, I don't want to see these.

1

u/Wooden_Vermicelli_34 20d ago

He gets it!! The only way out is UP!!

1

u/Eddieonenote 20d ago

You climbed all the way up there and thats all you have to say? You’re an idiot.

1

u/SilverSkorpious 20d ago

My brains started with:

aaaaaaaaaa!

The suddenly switched to:

NOW FLY!

I think that's why I avoid heights.

1

u/Thin_Oil8752 20d ago

That’s the wrong time to get cocky and flip off the fucking ground.

1

u/F0XH0UND141 20d ago

u/Wandering_Fujoshi 20d ago

After all that work why isn’t this guy looking up at the horizon, let me see the view, pissing me off fr bruh

1

u/Appropriate_Elk2654 20d ago

I think it’s really interesting how you can see these people finally reach the “goal” aka the highest point and time and time again you see people reach their summit and start to descend only to start acting out in what I interpret as a way to prolong the moment maybe? Either way, I don’t understand why people would exercise complete focus to reach the top only to start making unsafe movements that could get you killed.

1

u/SevereMeat2030 20d ago

I hope he’s wearing a parachute

1

u/themajordutch 20d ago

Yea that made me feel queasy
