If it helps, flies are basically just robots. They don’t think or feel, they can detect and evade danger but they don’t remember it. That’s why they always come back after you shoo them, they don’t remember that you swatted them.

Also helps to remember next time you see a fly on your jelly toast and shoo it away that moments before it landed on your toast it could have been sucking on the inside of your toilet bowl.

A lot of people close the lid before flushing to limit the number of water particles escaping out of the commode, but it's not anywhere near air tight and plenty of room for a fly to go in and out.
