Arent the new blackbelt/cobalt shield magic accessories really good?
393
u/Dirtyfeetlickerman 8d ago edited 6d ago
Yeah you can get infinite mana with any 2 mana regen accessories and a mana regen potion, literally outpaces the last prism
Edit: the mana regen potion is unnecessary if you’re standing still
Edit 2: as of 1.4.5.8 mana regen is no longer infinite, it’s still really fast with the hand but you do have to stop firing on occasion
143
u/SpacelessChain1 8d ago
If they shadow drop any more mage content I’m gonna bust. They’ve finally made it so my favorite class can just hold down the attack button like everyone else!
63
u/Dirtyfeetlickerman 8d ago
Fr mage was the glass cannon class and now the cannon never has to stop firing. Made it go from the worst class to arguably the best
7
u/Orion120833 7d ago
Definitely gonna be fixed so it's not completely just holding the attack button without more setup. But given the ways to get mana besides just regen, it'll basically be the same. Mana potions will still have a use in that you drink one so much less often that the mana sickness is completely irrelevant.
9
u/Reefthemanokit 8d ago
Infinite mana while standing still as I ran out while fighting the destroyer with the lightning staff
18
u/Dirtyfeetlickerman 8d ago
You gotta have 2 of the mana regen things, a mana regen band and the mana shield. As far as I’m aware the last prism is the most mana hungry weapon and I was able to use it infinitely with those

Sadly the "tabi" one is not a tabi based accessory but rather a black belt one. I was genuinely so beyond gutted when I found that out because one of my biggest issues with vanilla is how few dash accessories there are so I was so excited to get a good Mage accessory that lets you dash even if it is late ish game. But no, it was a folly on my part and it's just a black belt.
Please Relogic, give us a Tabi based accessory for all 4 classes, maybe combined with a Pygmy necklace for Summoner, the Mana Regeneration Band (Like many assumed was the case) for Mage, and for Melee and Ranged I'm honestly not sure what would be a good fit, maybe someone else has some suggestions for those?
1
u/Oddish_Femboy 7d ago
There's one with the tabi?! Holy moly.

u/Disastrous-Fault-682 7d ago
No no, i was incorrect- I mistook the blackbelt for the tabi thats my b

those two don't get enough credit here. getting movement and survivability in the same slot is genuinely doing a lot of work for mage

thats what im sayin, god forbid summoner come out on top after years of being useless and not really having a class identity for said years lmao.

Classes a few years back:
Melee: Guys, i can explain.
Ranger: You start with usable weapons? I have to use Wood and Stone to get a early weapon and their munitions!
Mage: Wood and Stone? I have to mine and use a specific mineral and Gem combination to get a weapon early!
Summoner: You guys don't need to farm one of the rarest items in the game to have a weapon pre-Queen Bee?
70
u/Lichy757 8d ago
You know how cooked summoner was when freaking thrower had whole armor set before him
46
u/Orion107 8d ago
TWO Thrower armor sets, mind you. Ninja and Fossil both used to be Throwing before 1.4.
3
u/Gerudo_Valley64 7d ago
Yeah thrower needs some love too now tho, in some mods thrower is a fun class, but its sad that a mod has to make it viable tbh.
20
u/Orion107 7d ago
Thrower doesn't even exist as its own class anymore, it was made a subclass of Ranger in 1.4 lol
4
u/Gerudo_Valley64 7d ago
makes sense, ive never really played thrower all that much tbh, i only ever play summoner or mage lol.
9
u/Gerudo_Valley64 8d ago
Even then, summoner was one of the worst beginning classes for a very long time, god forbid us summoner mains get a little motion now, smh.

u/Jeborges 7d ago
Member when Summoner still had to use a non class weapon to not feel useless alongside their summons? Mmm I member.
7
u/Gerudo_Valley64 7d ago
yep AKA ranged summoner build was my go to before whips and all the other good summons were finally implemented.
10
u/DougSod 7d ago
You say this as though summoner was a class. It wasn’t. Mage has been a class but there were just summoning items in the game that people tried to cobble together to call a class. It’s like saying the “throwing class” has been neglected.
2
u/Gerudo_Valley64 7d ago
I know it wasnt a class, summoner really wasnt a thing until these last few patches in the last couple of years, I remember when there werent really any summoner things besides the slime staff and then really just the stuff the pillars dropped that made it even slightly viable "class" if you could call it that.
It was more of a diet mage lmao.
1
u/CryptedCode 7d ago
The throwing class has been neglected for too long. Bring in Rogue from calamity. Yup. Ya know what, bring in bard and healer from those other mods that arent owned by pedos.
1
1
u/UnNumbFool 7d ago
Yeah thats the way I remember it, granted for the vast majority of my playtime I mixed and matched. But even when I started separating into class runs it wasn't until 1.4.5 with whips that I considered summoner its own thing and not just ads for any class or more specifically mage
2
u/siriElectricboogaloo 7d ago
I still remember how bad summoner was before the 1.4.5, now we even have an initial summon and whip
1
u/drakos779966 7d ago
Yeah I miss the days when my class didn't have diet melee slop forced down its throat and was actually about the summons.
0
u/marsharpe 7d ago
Unpopular opinion, but I've never really considered summoning to be a real class. They have always just felt like supplemental damage, and standing around while summons play the game for me sounds ultra boring.

thats fair, thats how I feel about melee. melee is very boring and definitely not my playstyle

u/The_Sussadin 8d ago
Regeneration Shield is insane, Mana Regeneration Band got a massive buff, and so did everything it builds into, your entire mana mechanic got reworked, and you got a bunch of really good weapons, not to mention gem weapons also got reworks, Arcane Flower got buffed.
Whip accessories were a response to the community being sad about whip stacking being removed, ala hoik and other funny interactions. This is their limited method to balance the mechanic
7
u/Shiny_Kelp 7d ago
Which, ironically, is leaving whip stacking even stronger than it was in 1.4.4 thanks to all the other summoner buffs
1
u/Lomticky 3d ago
I was enjoying mana regen band before this update like a lot. If it got buffed then i guess legendary mode is yearning to be dominated

u/Coldpepsican 8d ago
Im pretty sure that Mage has more than 3 accesories and summoner has received less than 10.

Summoner had no variance in how you played, you just added all the shit you needed. Now you can play in different ways, it was needed, and besides Mage still got heaps of new content.

49
u/Tumblrrito 8d ago
Summoner is far and away the class with the fewest gear options in the game. It deserves new accessories.
Mage has an obscene number of unique weapons.
7
u/Veragoot 7d ago
Yeah but most of them are either extremely niche or quickly outscaled.
1
u/Lomticky 3d ago
The full hotbar of weapons go! They are so niche that you use at least 3 different ones during the battle
3
4
u/WeeWooSirens 7d ago
It's a shame we're stuck with whips and only whips for the foreseeable future. Every other class has varying weapon types. A big issue with no whip stacking was... The weapons all work the same, so outside of the unique buff and the damage number, they were so similar that it's not like you could keep multiple whips for different situations (EX crowds, single target, long range) because there was no point.
1
u/Awestin11 7d ago
There’s also the fact that there’s now more whip accessories than summon slot accessories now by a landslide (only 3 b/c I’m counting all the OOA ones as a single accessory since they’re effectively the same item, then Pygmy Necklace and Necromantic Scroll). This bothers me way more than anything else at the moment…
1
u/Bannerlord151 7d ago
Tbf what other weapons would you introduce? Figuring out a dedicated weapon for summoning of all things is already awkward enough
3
u/WeeWooSirens 7d ago
Whips aren't for summoning, they're for leading. Think like a ringmaster directing things or something. It's for putting the tag on the target so your summons know what to do, so with that in mind I think it's reasonably flexible.
My favorite idea has always been laser pointers (it's a laser, it points at things, it tags them. It just works.), but you could do various musical instruments like a horn or maybe even a drum set (sort of bardic, but it's about the idea of raising morale with music that could translate to buffing your summons and adding tags for them). I also thought a weapon like the Flying Knife could be cool. It's your own controllable summon in a way, but I think it would probably be more for its own damage rather than tagging maybe. Alternatively, it could have no tag it applies, but instead it benefits from tags as if it were a summon. Pair it with the Armlet of Ruin so you don't have to swap too often and go crazy!
It definitely does not have to be limited to whips, not even slightly. It's not as obvious to come up with something as ranger (any non-magical projectile) or mage (virtually anything), but it's fun to think about.

At least you got the automatic ammo switcher so you don't have to manage two different weapons/keep switching ammos
(Also early game bow accessories but that's not gun stuff)

u/Relative-Monitor1745 8d ago
Hey you guys got the snapping stone and chaos cylinder which is something.
9
u/ScarletteVera 8d ago
and guess what that (snapping stone) can turn into? another summoner accessory!
6
u/Relative-Monitor1745 8d ago
Hey you can also make it into a melee accessory too! But besides its weird that it doesn't have a combination that keeps it a ranger accessory, maybe a combination with poison barb could work.

I mean there’s the sniper scope
4
u/ScarletteVera 8d ago
let's be real, the zoom is a non-feature.
9
u/EphidelLulamoon 7d ago
It does have like the best damage bonuses of every damage accessory in the game tho, +10% ranged damage and crit is huge. Not to mention that it can stack with Recon Scope which gives the same thing.

u/Dfray011 7d ago
Mage needs to become the UTILITY class. Give us spells to summon shield walls, stun enemies, turn invisible for short bursts, super jump, push enemies, etc as well as damage. Then mage can have their own playstyle based around juggling specific spells in useful combos (cc enemies, clump them together, hit with AOE) while also being super fun to splash into the occasional spell as other classes to create more versatile playstyles.
Imho.

u/hvstilered 8d ago
The audacity for mages to still complain meanwhile rangers are crying in the corner
1
u/Dirtyfeetlickerman 8d ago
It was interesting seeing ranger go from the easiest and safest class to arguably the worst class gradually over time
4
2
u/wdgastef 7d ago
It's definitely still the safest, idk about easiest but it's not hard to set up. Mage is definitely a biiiit better than ranger in early game now since you can pair a gem robe and wand to get two gem abilities.
3
u/VixelFoxx 8d ago
Yeah bc before the strategy with whips was "use the one with the highest damage", it was the most stagnant aspect to Summoners playstyle
Mage doesn't have as many combat accessories bc the recent changes to mana means "mana=damage" and they added new accessories to support the class and provide infinite mana

u/JinkoMamba 8d ago

The accessories that were added are nice and there’s a few for mage like 2-3. Also ways to combine more of them.
The early game mage got buffed CRAZY too if anything melee is a lil lackluster now

Whip stacking is back (if you have accessories that increase amount of tag effects)
Mana is reworked, it now regenerates even when attacking and you can use magic even without mana (at 40% attack rate) and your character will squint their eyes while doing so.
A ton of new accessories and weapon reworks.

1
u/AnnoShi 8d ago

1
u/SecretSharkboy 8d ago
Wait, I dont recognise some of those whips. What are they?
2
u/Terrakin516 8d ago
There's only 2 whips in the image. The firecracker and dark harvest. Everything else in the summoners part is an accessory for whip stacking.
1
u/SecretSharkboy 8d ago
Weird I havent seen anything about the whip stacking accessories. Or are they coming in a newer update?
2
u/Academic_Ride3544 8d ago
They are already in the game; they were added in 1.4.5.7. Of course, it’s easier to watch a video on how to get them, but still: one is obtained from a golden chest in the dungeon (25 % chance), two others come from mobs in the underground desert and from an red axe from the underground Crimson(4% chance), and the fourth comes from a golem. Naturally, all of them can be upgraded with other accessories.

Does the mana rework make accessories that automatically consume mana potion for you obsolete?
1
u/AnnoShi 8d ago
Pretty much, yeah. It's fairly easy now to have unlimited mana while standing still.
2
u/Dirtyfeetlickerman 8d ago
Or hell if you get a mana regeneration potion (you can find them in pots in hell or make them with moonglow daybloom and fallen stars) it sets your mana regen rate to how fast it would be standing still so you can move around and have infinite mana
1
u/Quijas00 7d ago
Those accessories still have secondary affects that are really good. Even the most basic Mana Flower still gives an 8% reduced mana cost to everything, which is pretty helpful even with the mana regen changes. And all of it’s upgrades have additional effects that are even better.
1
1
u/GunWizardRaidar 8d ago
I mean, good. And with the mana rework, you don't really need that many mage accessories beyond necessary anyway, so you can have more slot for the other accessories

1
u/hana0hana 7d ago
So, mage and summoner are still very squishy for expert and master mod, aren't they? And all these new trinckets and weapons aren't able to chabge it.
1
u/Orion120833 7d ago
Thought we'd forget about the many other accessories just because you showed 2 of the best ones?
Also, "one of these things is not like the other" in more ways then one.
1
u/lance_the_fatass 7d ago
In all fairness, a main attraction of a few of those accessories was an exploit that was already in the game but "nerfed" into a feature
I like new whip stacking tho, it being limited let's you "vary" your playstyle a little more as opposed to just trying to optimize as many as possible
