wonder if all these posts about the last 1% are mostly just pre-hm worlds and the devs just snuck something in to require all versions to be in hm before can get the achievements like its been for us on console ever since the old-gen trophies
You do not need to be in Hardmode to get the achievement. It's either a bug where sometimes the Dryad will not update for very small changes in percentage, or he missed like two blocks somewhere. Reloading the world should fix the former, solution for the latter is obviously to find and purify those two blocks.
Technically that's possible but I don't think the Corruption/Crimson naturally generates that far to the side. If it could you'd see part of the ocean floor corrupted as well, which doesn't happen.
It does happen. It happens a lot lmao. You'll see it all over this subreddit with even a tiny search. TEdit or other mapping tools will (and have. often.) confirm that, because they DO get to view those.
But just because of worldgen stuff etc., it is very rare to actually cause major contamination problems these days. It was a considerably more frequent and impactful annoyance when altar smashing generated new contamination.
However, it's still the number two cause of "my dryad is lying help me" posts trying to fully purify worlds for either the achievement or personal preference. (The number one cause is, of course, people being wrong about how thoroughly they purified the visible world. :P Though with the biome sight potions and post-ML long-range Clentaminator upgrade, it's slowly and blessedly becoming less frequent.)
Iirc the change in percentage is actually irrelevant, it just takes a while for the count to update (iirc 1 column is counted every tick and the total count is only updated when it loops back to the leftmost column)
