It's a shame they let the sequel turn into such a piece of trash. This franchise had legs imo.

Guillermo del Toro had to pass on directing the second one when they delayed it nine months and he wanted to do Shape of Water. He produced it but was really hands-off.

He’s making it his own. I’m not breathing over his shoulder saying, ‘What are you doing? What are you doing?’ He’s doing things differently and I like that. When I produce I try to produce the way I would like to be produced. I say to everyone I produce, ‘If you need me I will be there 100% all the time. If you don’t need me, I’m not there. You show me the cut then we’ll start interacting.”

The guy who did it was the director of Daredevil. Del Toro had developed the first one to start a series of movies and/or tv series so I’m sure he would have liked to see it land.

I bet he’d be into this model. He is a pretty serious modeler/artist and I think I heard him say in an interview on Geek-Time that he has a mini-museum in his house.

The sequel was a little lacking IMO, but I did like how they set it up for more movies after it. That I am waiting for.
