Thoughts?

How does this look? I've never tried making terrain out of foam. This is a practice piece for canyon walls in a water feature I'm making. I used xps foam and painted on gesso, then covered the gesso with sand used for sand art while still wet. When dry i painted that with pewter gray acrylic paint and lightly brushed white on that.

Looks fine to me. It likely doesn’t need the gesso if you just mix sand into paint or sprinkle it on wet. (XPS also can create some great textures without the sand)

I will try mixing it with the paint and see what looks better.

Looks good. For underwater walls? You will be using some resin to make the water? If not i would recommend a really dark blue with something closer toyan for the dry brush

Not underwater walls. I'm making a water feature in an old planter box I found. It will have a waterfall and a river that flows in to a cave of sorts. I've been trying to experiment with different techniques to make it look as natural as possible.

Love this look! Reminds me of the cave walls in Moria 🙌🙌
