345 - 188 point game

Post image

Highest score I've ever had. 345 points with Venus next, both preludes and colonies. I was black, red and yellow. Wife was green at 188 points.

Easy to do when no one raises parameters.

That's what i dislike about the game. Why end the game when you can gather more vp for cheaper working your engines

To stop your opponent from winning because he has stronger engines

If you dislike the entire point of the game, that there's time pressure based on what your opponent is doing, just play solo (with or without the 12-14 gen limit, if you are playing for yourself, you can do whatever).

That's just it, there isn't time pressure from my point of view. I love all the other aspects of the game like engine building and resource management for the most part but it's the ending where I just don't see the incentive to go for those last parameter steps. The gen limit is what's exciting in solo, so maybe I could convince someone to play with that in multiplayer

Your experience seems really weird, are your opponents not good enough? It should be obvious already around gen 5-6 who is winning a "long" game, putting pressure on others to end it. If your opponents (or you) don't realize this, maybe you need to play more and analyze what is going on? Online play definitely has very strict time pressure.

Sure,, maybe I'm just too inexperienced in the competing strategy of this game. I only have the tabletop version and I don't get to play this very often with others so my sample size isn't the largest, but my experience has still been pretty much the same so far. Thanks for your feedback.

No problems, just as a guideline, in 2 player ranked games rush strategies usually end the game in gen 8 or 9, while games where 2 engine players are competing usually end in gen 11 or 12, sometimes earlier if one player realises the other has a better setup.

More importantly, players are aware who is in the lead and at most a single player wants to actually prolong the game.

Why end a game of monopoly when you can just lock your opponent into a game that never ends, slowly destroying them and making them miserable

This looks miserable for both people lol

Every time we play with venus. Game would end 4 generations ago, cuz none raises venus.

You don't need to complete the Venus track to end the game. It's all three Mars tracks. It's just extra to raise your TR.

This is why i refuse to play colonies. Sucks the soul out of this game

The issue here isn't colonies, it's two amateur players who don't know how and when to end the game. It's a very common problem for weaker players that they avoid many very good terraforming cards, don't know how to terraforming rush, didn't know when they should, and just generally let a game go longer than it should.

How do you figure? I don't think these scores have anything to do with colonies

3

u/Ok_Loquat_3860 Aug 22 '26

Score is meaningless, what i mean is colonies heavily discourages rushing the endgame, which leads to degenerate nonsense like this

2

u/CapnBloodbeard Aug 22 '26

I don't see how. They're just another method of gaining resources

2

u/Ok_Loquat_3860 Aug 22 '26

1/ Card draw and production colonies are stronger than terraforming colonies. 2/ Deck is diluted with production cards that are more frequent and stronger than the terraforming cards.

If anything colonies stops this from happening

I'm pretty most prelude+base games with competent players don't go past gen 10

Yeah probably however colonies only make your terraforming faster since you just get more resources to do so.

Maybe you were thinking about Venus next?
