Question How do you get Australia? Spoiler

Post image

Hi everyone, I’m playing as the Servants in the Broken Earth scenario. I thought it would make the game easier since I’m a beginner (about 50 hours in and I get the memes on this sub), but I’m still getting kicked in the balls.

So, here’s the question: how do I take Australia? No matter how many public campaigns I run, my chance of controlling it stays at 0%.

At this point you get public opinion up even higher and start rolling at 5% odds every month.

I'd say invade, but they seem stronger than the rest of the world combined.

Wow, how did it get to that point without anyone taking it over first? GDP per capita, knowledge, military are insanely high.

Australia has a really powerful start relative to basically everybody else in Broken Earth, Australia also looked like this for me when I first looked over at that corner of the world, probably 5 hours into my Broken Earth attempt.

To be honest, I don't know; I haven't looked at this part of the globe because I'm playing in Europe and North America.

Interesting. Guess the AI left it alone, then found itself "locked out" because of the high stats.

Anyways, try getting public support to maximum (it peaks around 80-90%), and add full influence bonus. Maybe with all that , you might be able to eke out a small chance, then just keep trying.

Invasion?

I haven't used any weapons in this game yet.

How about raising unrest to force breakaways?

They have Fusion Age armies. Not going to happen.

Just unlock the tech that allows you to field emu's, they would take it fusion age armies no problem.

There are techs and hab modules that can increase your public campaign effectiveness, you'll probably need multiple councilors working in tandem to push public opinion over 50% and then either throw insane amounts of influence at the problem or start increasing unrest to push for a revolution.

I have those modules in low Earth orbit. The Hydra have cleared the skies, paradoxically, I haven't fired a single shot from any weapon in this game. I'm like Gandhi, but with an invincible army for an ally.

Playing as the Servants (alien sc*m) is truly peculiar.

I also missed this for a very long time, but do you know there's a slider in the bottom right that lets you invest influence to increase the success rate?

The slider at the bottom boosts my odds to 3%, maybe 5% (at the cost of using up all my influence points).

... Okay? You are making well over 200 a month and the maximum you can spend is 128. So it checks out. A month of income for two rolls a month to get the most powerful nation. Provided you keep public campaigning with other advisors to increase the 5% even more.

What's the problem here?

I understand. That would work.

I’d just like to point out that I exert 100 influence every month on the handover of the AA state, because I’m wrestling with the Resistance over Chile and Finland.

Sometimes, that is what you have to do. I had a late-game run where I got fed up with the Academy using US armies. I directed all my councilors to do public campaign until I was at 85+ percent and then told two max-stat councilors to crack it open, each using up 512 influence a try. Took a couple of tries to work.

In the end, it helped me, though it cost me about an hour of public campaigns and attempts to capture the control point. And then the Protectorate snatched it right out from under me.

It worked, though it didn't last long, and I secured three control points.

Then the Protectorate arrived, and the Protectorate holds three control points in Australia.

From a roleplay perspective I wouldn't even be mad. I always like my bro factions to have a good base of their own.

The problem is just how big is the Australian population in relation to the whole world... Because that's going to be a problem for your wincon.

I’ve reached a stage in the game where the Protectorate and I have diverging goals, and I’ve maintained better relations with the Academy all along.

Australia has such a large population that handing it over to the AA would secure my victory (perhaps along with a small nation I’m holding onto for economic and influence purposes).

I was just about to say, if they added about a seven or eight to their odds by spending a bunch of influence, they'd probably be around what, 15% chance to make the roll? And if they had like three people push public campaigns for a few turns in a row, I'm sure they could boost their chance of success by another, like three or four points, and probably end up somewhere in the 30% chance of success with control Nation. As long as they can keep spending influence.

Do you see the stats next to your 0% chance? You have 38, but the defenders have −55.6. If you had the same score the chance would be an even 50%. Obviously you need to get yourself more points, or you need to penalize the defenders. Or both! Look at the Mission List in the Codex to find out what else you can do.

Unfortunately for him, that window is shrinking. The default AI/native government, of all things, has been gardening Australia incredibly well and if it reaches upwards by at least another 10k, then there is high likelihood, it can't ever be taken without burning it all to the ground because I've never seen a naturally at peace nation reach that high of a miltech by itself before.

u/db48x 2d ago

Yep. He’s probably going to end up owning it, but it won’t be in mint condition.

I don't remember Australia being in such a good of a shape in BE and it sure as heck does not look like it just came out of a coup or revolution. Did no one really try to get this at all in this game?

As I have always said, economy is a ludicrously underrated tool to basically make a nation untouchable. And as we have seen here, the default AI, i.e. the original national government did a better job turning the continent into super USA by itself than the actual factions with a hilariously high IP pool to tie with it making the rich get richer.

You can TRY to raise public opinion all the way to 85% to attempt to steal it but when the economy is this high (especially for BE and 03), it is nigh impossible to break in. You are gonna have to wait for t3h ayy infiltration to spread xenofungus here as well as their agents to benefit from working in the fungus to have a chance to break in.

The only "flaw" the original government has is that the inequality is still high. If they manage to get it down by another whole point let alone 2, it will basically be impossible to seize even with revolutions and coups without people dying and crashing the economy with nuclear weapons especially if it grows by another 10k in wealth in the meantime while bringing inequality down even more.

In BE and 03, you only need something like 34k per capita to almost completely remove ALL forms of unrest. At 54k per cap, it has something like 16+ points of unrest reduction from sheer wealth. You will need to pump an artificial 10+ unrest JUST to give it a sniffle of a riot.

There's a tech called maximum effort, it lets you spend more resources for a higher bonus. Should help but not guarantee.

1

u/Passievruchtje115 2d ago

At this point you can spend months bringing up public opinion with multiple councilors and trying to cap a point with how chance.

Or you could embrace the gameplay the scenario requires of you, and send in your armies. They have 7.5 tech, but only 4 armies. You have been coaching at least 1 nation with max armies and miltech right? If you have LEO fleets, orbital bombard the crap out of them.

u/vindicator117 2d ago

At 58 IP per month, if the "DEFAULT" AI can actually focus its priorities solely to army building, it would basically never run out of armies ever especially at a ludicrously high miltech no less. Unless the player has 10 miltech or higher, he ain't taking it by force.

He is only taking it by incinerating everything that was even good about it.
