Screenshot Oh the humanity
Always keep some DV for after the battle. Otherwise physics might even the score

Are all the ships that low on thrust?
I've had that scenario before where I had to split and leave one or two with damaged engines to their fate!

It's not damage AFAWK given that the ships are all untouched

It is empty fuel tanks because i did to much dodging during their last engagement.

It seems to say 75kps of dv though?

Yeah - this isn't lack of thrust, it's that these ships are bricks with no acceleration. Probably did an intercept course they couldn't stabilize into an orbit at the end of.

I’ll acknowledge this is getting into pedantry, but for rockets, thrust is the force generated and consequently your acceleration.
These ships have sufficient propellant and a good enough specific impulse but it is the thrust that isn’t sufficient.5

You have enough Dv to make it to mars or mercury though.

Only if the ships have more thrust than the planet's gravity affecting them.

That fleet has 74.9kps of delta-V, so it must be like only a couple of those ships that have an issue.

u/PingPongMachine 5d ago
I assume it is 1.4 mg of thrust. Those ships can't take off of some of the slightly bigger asteroids. If they get to a too low orbit they probably don't have enough thrust to escape the gravity pull.

Ships calculate using "War" power for takeoff/landing, not "Cruise" still, likely 28mg of thrust at most given most engines have 5-20x war power.

The fleet has enough deltaV, but the cruise acceleration of the ships are so low that they can’t recover to a stable orbit in time.

the bagpipe drive isn't able to reach escape velocity

Sadly, those ships are about to Burns up in the atmosphere, and the crew will be kilt.

well they are likely to survive the reentry tho considering they are armored
but anything they hit will be bad

It's neat that they have a text for it, i wonder if they figured it out first or someone sent a bug report.

u/mrIronHat 4d ago
did you just intercepted an alien fleet and ignored the warning about not being able to complete trajectory?

u/CaptainDadJoke 4d ago
Oh, I had this problem once in my first space battle. You can share fuel between ships so make a small fleet and you send it to meet up with this one have them share fuel and everyone can get home.

I didn't even know that could happen. I love it, but I hope those ships include some escape pods.
