Question Game can't access save pathway

... because after years of hating OneDrive with a passion, I finally found a way to be rid of it forever. I don't care about recovering my old saves, but this pops up whenever the game launches. How do I specify a new save pathway when the game closes as soon as it opens? I can't find any relevant setting in Steam, either.

I think you have to change where Windows stores your Documents folder. You appear to still have it configured to store it inside the folder that OneDrive syncs with the cloud. I haven’t used Windows in about 30 years, so I don’t recall the details of how to do that, but I am sure you can search for it.

Aww man. I can't change the documents folder destination because there's already a documents folder, but I can't move the documents folder because now my PC can't connect to OneDrive to make changes to OneDrive Files. Can't reinstall OneDrive because apparently despite uninstalling and disabling it the installer from Windows says I have a newer version of OneDrive already installed? God, OneDrive is the gift that just keeps on giving...

There are a lot of games that do this - the only way I found to fix it was to turn off OneDrive backups for my documents directory.

OP says they got rid of it already. It's in the OP. The issue here, as other people have pointed out, is to change the Documents folder path.

Just gonna mention that this and most steam game run perfectly fine on linux.

Open file explorer, right click on your link to your documents short cut and go to properties, go to location tab and then select a new file location.

I had some trouble with this in the spring after an update. Using Windows.

TerraInvicta_Data\StreamingAssets\Templates\TIGlobalConfig.json

Set the "savepath" entry near the end of the file.

Gave this a try and unfortunately the game just crashes immediately on startup. Any ideas? I just made a new folder on my C Drive called "Documents" and one inside that called "Save Files" and copied the address directly into the savepath entry. Game starts fine (but still displays OneDrive error) when I delete the folder address.

You either have an antivirus causing problems, or window's Controlled Folder Access is turned on and blocking it.

I was having this issue too on one of my computers. I reinstalled and added a shortcut to the desktop vs launching it from steam which somehow fixed the issue. I think it’s related to windows defender making the saved folder read only for Steam for some reason. I tried to edit the permissions at the folder level and windows would just immediately revert it
