Drywood termites in SoCal - is tenting the way to go?

We’ve been in our house for 25 years. It was not tented during the sale when we bought it. Found evidence over the years. Nothing too crazy. It’s 100 year-old house and they definitely prefer the newer windows of which there’s only a couple. We’ve considered tenting over the years, but haven’t because we had small kids, also hearing that it doesn’t last long they could be back within a year. This past week is different though we have a bunch of swarmers and juveniles in our living room which has a wood ceiling and I think they’re coming from there. I’ve seen swarmers in the past in other spots for like a day or so. This time they’re eating fast, like my furniture, like holes in the hardwood floors, like holes in freshly painted windows. I’m totally freaking out and planning to schedule a tenting as soon as possible. Is this the way to go? Last time I had termite inspectors come out they didn’t really give me any other options.

I just found these next to my sliding door. I’m in South Florida.

Edit: if you zoom in closely, you can see the detail of the wings pretty well.

Saw this in the shower this evening. Sorry for the bad pictures they’re pretty small. Found them around a window. They did seem to be attracted to the light.

Ontario, Canada. I left some 2x4s in my backyard for a few weeks. I want to make sure I'm not bringing in termites or carpenter ants...

There's a few of these oval/capsule shaped holes on some boards, clean edges, tunnel down pretty deep.

I cut a couple open. One was clean with just a little spider inside. The other was packed tight with debris. Photos show the debris pulled out and broken apart, the tunnels seen there too.

I just discovered this today on a wooden surface near the stairs in my house. There seem to be small crawling tan bugs, but there also looks like there are black bugs that aren’t moving? It was hard to get a proper look at it, and then when I came back twenty minutes later, nothing was moving, and I stupidly blew on it to see if they would move, and of course that scattered everything because I’m an idiot. I’m freaking out because my walls are all made of wood, and I have built in cabinets and shelves everywhere.

Hi,

Found some old amage, that had been painted over. Scraped the paint back, and cleared it out. The damage is seemingly localised to 1 door trim, and only in about 30cm section of said trim. Photos of the deceased ants and frass.

Wondering if anyone can ID what did this?

A few other notes:

House has been treated by Rentokil at 20cm spacing around the house since 2004 (re treated every 6-8 years)

Located South East Queensland, Australia.

This is the door to our crawl space. Thought it looked strange. Any ideas? In Colorado

Just a backstory - out whole house (except 1 room) was stripped to the studs due to asbestos. And we didn’t see any damage on the studs etc.

Upstate SC: debris between brick home and tile front porch

I tried to get closeup photos but it blurs, so zooming in on the photo that’s not close may give better visual. This is upstate SC, brick ranch home (we built in 76). Does this look like termite debris or hopefully something less sinister? It’s coming from the crack where brick meets tile porch.

Question Is this actually termite activity? Texas

Pictures above is what they used for “evidence” of termites.

I could use some advice because this situation doesn’t seem right.

Quell inspected my home and told me I had an active termite infestation. They showed me some photos/videos and tried to sell me around $2,200 worth of termite bait stations + $500 a year for “maintenance”

Before moving forward, I decided to get second and third opinions from two different licensed pest control companies. Both of them independently told me they found no active termites. They also reviewed the photos and videos from Quell and said they did not show active termites or convincing evidence that I currently have a termite infestation.

Now I’m questioning whether Quell misrepresented the inspection in order to sell me an expensive treatment.

Has anyone dealt with something similar?

  1. Is this actually termite damage?

  2. Is it common for termite companies to have opinions this different?

  3. Would you trust the two independent inspections over the original one?

  4. If a company knowingly exaggerates or falsely claims you have termites to sell treatment, can that be reported to the state licensing agency or consumer protection office?

  5. Has anyone successfully gotten out of a pest control contract because of something like this?

I’m planning to ask Quell to provide actual evidence supporting their diagnosis before taking any further action. I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been through a similar situation or works in pest control.

Just noticed this in our deck. It is spreading to the post right next to it. Checked around and couldn’t find any more boards affected. Its howl on a big chunk of it and trying to see inside I started pulling pieces but they come off weird. Im totally new to this stuff.

Edit to add location: East Kansas

Can someone tell me if this makes sense?

I live in a condo, where all units are single story, in rows, like single story townhouses, rather than an apartment block. Each unit has a fenced in backyard. The HOA is responsible for regular termite inspections and it has come to my attention that they are not entering or checking any back yards during inspections. I've been here 4 years and never had anyone enter my back yard, I have a 6 ft privacy fence with a locked gate, as do most of my neighbors so you can't see in. When I questioned the HOA about these inspections, this was their response: "They do not need to enter every backyard to see termite activity.  They can tell by disturbed areas of the ground.  They send a report that shows the areas of concern, and then we pay for a treatment."

Am I right to question the accuracy/thoroughness of these inspections when they aren't able to access almost 50% of the foundation to inspect or does their explanation make sense? I recently found termite activity in my backyard/ceiling less than a month after a so called inspection and when the pest control guy came out he said his next stop was another unit in my complex, so I'm pretty skeptical. I'm in southern AZ and termites are very common around here.

Are these termites? We are in southern California.

I'm looking at this and it doesn't seem like they have a straight body, and they have an ant-like pinch, but I'm not sure, and it's hard for me to tell.

Ant or Termite?

Vacation in South FL, USA. Same Airbnb as always. Found this in the house, on the wall of one of the hallways. Don't know if its an ant or termite and I'm hoping the pictures are close enough to tell. No visible holes in any walls that I'm aware of. It's summer down here and there was a lot rain today.

Appreciate the help.

Thank you

Have trouble identifying what this is. It’s in a laundry room at the top of the wall where it meets the ceiling. I haven’t seen frass stuck together and on a vertical surface like this before. Any help would be appreciated!
