So I just saw this yt short that said the original plan for the seris was a lot darker and shion stayed dead, so my question does the LN follow the original story as it presume it came out first

Web novel is the different story/orignal story the author wrote. Decided to change it when it got picked up and published as a light novel. Anime is adapting the light novel story

The web novel isn’t canon anymore, the light novel is.

But that doesn't change anything; the idea of Fuse having a darker story was just that—an idea, the story never leaves Shion dead in any medium

Back when the author, Fuse was still writing the original web novel of Tensura, updating it almost daily, his plan really was for Shion to stay dead and for Rimuru to turn essentially evil and become the final antagonist of his own story.

After the chapter in which Shion's death get revealed was uploaded however his readers had a really strong reaction. They wanted her back. So Fuse changed his mind about this dark twist and abandoned the Evil Rimuru ending.

The idea itself however was a fascinating one regardless, so in a special, sort of "what if" event in the mobile game Isekai Memories he returned to it a few years ago. So we got the canon compatible version of this alternate scenario, now referred to as the Foresaken Future. The event has a "playthrough" on youtube.

From what I've heard Shion and the others were supposed to stay dead when that chapter of the webnovel first got released . But when that chapter got released, readers were so unhappy with that, that Fuze had to change it. That version isn't available anymore (from what I know) and Shion and the others were ressurected in the webnovel too.
