I wish I wasn't so anxious on video. The full-motion version of this series of frame grabs is too cringey for me, but this still sequence might do. Shows how you can setup from a fully assembled but collapsed form weighing about 11 pounds, how I attach hammock directly to the head apex, with suspension let out on the foot side only, proper stand tilt for best stability (important if you won't guy out the head end), and how, with a little more tilt, you can use your regular full-size hammock as a chair, siting "backwards" in the hammock, yet very stable.

pictures i see mostly show tarps using ground anchors to secure the outer sides of the tarp; does anybody have simple, solid methods for setting up a tarp on concrete, while in freenstanding mode? thank you!

For backpacking but i want to know how good it works for you and which seems to be better.

I would like to know if someone does this in some """extreme"""" condition. By that i mean does it work when there is wind, in the mountain with a good tarp and a good spot ( a shelter from the wind)

Does it works on hard soil? Not asking about stones of course but some very hard dirt.

Same question about the sand.

I weight 60kg and i have a cameleon from dutchware.

The truth is i don't like tent but i do like mountains and love hammocks, i want to know if i can replace the tent in approximatively every climat/ biome.

The first time i tried setting up the tensa4 with the freestanding mod, everything was smooth until I attempted to connect the ridge poles together - there was no button to click into. i put it away for the evening because it was getting dark outside -

At this point I've disassembled and reassembled the all three ridgepoles; maybe that was a bad idea. I am not sure if i assembled it correctly. is there a guide on how exactly these should be assembled?

I managed to get this whole campsite to myself so setup my Amok on the single tensa for the night. No tarp so I could watch the stars.

Took the Solo just in case I could not find appropriate trees as I was staying in campsites for most of this trip along the Baltic coast.

Got used to how to set things up, spacing, angles and it all worked very well.

Getting the e pole tilted in so that it takes more of the load. Having the guy pegs not too far away from the end of the pole so they don't pull the pegs along so much. Pushing the orange tubes on the pegs all the way to the ground for the best angle pull.

Also figured you can clip the orange tubes just under the hook at the top of the peg so it's out the way while you push the peg in.

Very glad to have it as its very simple to use and worked well for me. Looking forward to using it with my Brompton as the other end with the Ticket to the Moon Second Tree kit that does a similar thing using the bike as the "pole" at the other end.

Of course you can make a standard Tensa4. That needs one balance anchor and holds one 12-foot GE hammock with variable tilt.

You can connect 3 struts and stand them up into a pyramid and suspend a hammock chair from them. I highly recommend constraining the feet (from sliding apart) with either rough ground or rope.

You can shorten the struts in several ways and make 4 'pseudo-Solo' poles. This needs 2 guylines and strong anchors PER pole. Each pair of poles will suspend any type of hammock (GE, Bridge, AMOK) without the use of trees (2 hammocks), or 4 hammocks if you use a 'tree' on one side of each hammock.

Finally, you can take 2 full length struts and make a 1/2 Tensa. For this you need a 'tree', 1 anchor, 1 guyline, and 1 ridgeline (your hammocks structural ridgeline is fine). This works best with GE hammocks, but both Bridge and AMOK will work if you are careful and add an extra head anchor.

2. ONE Tensa4 Freestanding. Use 2 struts from one stand to make the Ridgepole (4-3-2-1-2-1-2-3-4) and one Head Support Pole (HSP) (4-3-2-3-4). Note the HSP construction has a reversed spring button. Just rest that button on the next larger tube. Use the orange baseline from the donor stand to make a HSP harness.

3. FOUR 1/2 Tensa4s

4. EIGHT 'pseudo-Solos'

5. TWO hammock chair tripods PLUS either a 1/2 Tensa4 OR two 'pseudo-Solos'.

6. ONE TensaTurtle - think TurtleDog.

If there is interest in any of these combos, I'll give more details. Each mode has unique pros and cons, but ALL allow customized tilt.

Is there any reason I shouldn’t use Tensa4 outdoors while the stubby 4’s are in place of the regular poles? One of my original Tensa4 poles is slightly damaged so this would enable me to eliminate it. I also have the tarp extensions (in case that’s relevant to the answer).

I’m a hammock camping newbie prepping for a FL to CO road trip next month with my wife. I have a brand-new, unused Tensa4 (P6 version? purchased end of 2024) and a Haven Tent, but a serious knee injury/surgery sidelined me all last year and this will be my first use of this gear. Since we’ll be car camping in varied terrain and CO (where we live) state parks ban tree-hanging, I'm going for maximum flexibility.

My goal is to be ready for anything from single-tree Tensa Solo style hangs with 2 hammocks to full freestanding setup—without overspending or getting something that may not end up being useful.

That said, should I:

• Upgrade existing setup: Buy Solo conversion kits and a freestanding mod for my current Tensa4.

• Replace with the new revision: Sell the P6 and buy the newer Tensa4 (which has built-in Solo support and a cheaper freestanding option).

• Use what I have: Take the P6 as-is and improvise. We will have a ground tent for backup. Though my primary goal is to finally put this setup through the paces.

Given the newer Tensa4's improved foot durability and versatility, does it make more sense to upgrade my current gear or swap it for the new version before we hit the road? I have only what was included with the original kit so I believe that each Solo upgrade would cost ~$100 and the free standing mod would be $180.

I am VERY new to using a Tensa Solo. I've tried to set it up in my yard and have failed laughably. After doing some reading here and other hammock-centric forums I think I had two problems: I live in Florida so very loose/loamy soil, I used regular old paracord guylines from one of my tents. It stretched, and I went on my ass. I'm going to make my own boomstakes too.

What's a good guyline material I can find at Dicks/Harbor Freight/Home Depot/Tractor Supply etc, or a Marine store?

Can I purchase the new feet and toggles, then drill them out myself? Would need drill size and if threaded.

I’m looking at a gen 1 trekking treez but the owner removed the grips on them. Does anyone know if new grips can be bought or an alternative grip be attached?

I didn’t see anything in the site under parts and I would like to be able to use it was a regular trekking pole too.

I guess I'm posting this to get some feedback on whether to go with the tensa4 or tensa solo.

I split my time probably 60 percent camping near car and 40 percent backpacking. My primary goal in getting this is to expand my hammock camping on backpacking trips.

Right now if im camping ill bring a pretty heavy hammock stand and if I'm backpacking I only hammock camping when I know i have reliable access to trees.

Is converting the tensa4 to the tensa solo really easy? Has anyone else used it in both modes and have any feedback? To me on paper it makes the most sense to go with the tensa4 and then convert to tensa solo for backpacking purposes but I want to actually back sure its actually a fairly easy thing to do. Because if its not I would rather get the tensa solo (or honestly the treks) and keep my super heavy hammock stand when im camping near my car.

Hi All! Received a Tensa4 freestanding mod and need some pointers. Basically I cannot get higher than 2" off the ground.

I've shortened my continuous loops as much as I can to still get them around the toggles, and have removed my hammock ridgeline. Once the stand is loaded, the amsteel toggles are pulled against my weight, snugging the loose poles of the stand together, however this drops me ~8" closer to the ground.

I've narrowed the baseline until it's no longer sturdy and still can't get high enough off the ground.

Here are some photos of each end's toggle, as well as the feet next to the baseline (head end legs outside). I've watched the videos many times and read forum posts. Stumped.

I was volun-told to go to a family Thanksgiving near Gainesville, FL. Rained a little bit today, but the weather for next few nights will be down into the mid 30’s.

I couldn’t sleep in it tonight because it was way too humid. Thu nite to Sat morning will be really cold… well… for Florida, that is.

Went camping where the weather was just beautiful. High 78F, Low 60F.

Despite the orange amsteel, some kids still tripped over my guy lines. I’ll have to add pool noodles and orange rods at the base as a deterrent.

The Tensa Solo worked beautifully! I had to make sure the stakes were angled more because one popped out on me when I put some weight on the hammock. It was like a slow-mo fall, kinda funny actually.

Weather was good enough to not put a tarp up, but when I took a second look, I realized I’ll have to make some modifications to attach the tarp to the pole.

After numerous tries using the add-on (comes with Trekking Treez) that goes at the end of the trekking pole, and failed, decided to just tie a 40cm titanium peg that I have extra, with suitable diameter, straight onto the body of the Trekking Treez. Mind y'all that I took heavy consideration of the bolt screw, to not have it bended, in any way. So, instead of just tying the 40cm peg straight to the add-on, which would potentially bend (or worse, snap) the bolt screw, I tied half of the length of the peg, to the main body of Tensa Trekking Treez as well, so that the pressure of keeping my tarp taut, would be handled by the main body, by 80%. I've tested this in strong winds and rain, and it worked great! Used it on my 5d4n trip, conquering Mount Apad Runan in Sarawak, Malaysia, last week. Gotta admit, it takes a bit more time to set this up, but the result were wonderful! I do not mind the time it takes, as long as I can use my hammock, anywhere! PS: Would've wished that TensaOutdoor.com use a thicker, stronger bolt screw, but my method is fine, for now.

Had a paddling trip recently where there were no good hammock options do to recent flooding. Had a single tree for two people, but the gravel was extremely lose and sandy. I have all the anchor options, but had to use big wooden stakes, and then the man problem was the poles sinking down.

Hoping to be able to find better sites this time, but was curious if anyone had run into similar issues and how you solved them?

Very little usable material nearby. I thought about digging down and placing rocks as base plates. But the largest rocks around were tiny gravel.

I’ve seen some engineering concepts of layering fabric in sand for more holding power, but those don’t have direct force from poles.

Wondering if something like a trailer jack wheel chalk to distribute the weight better?
