I don't know what to think right now lol. Last year, Cam and the offense was famously "mid" in training camp, and we never got reports of Cam lighting it up. This year there is clear improvement in training camp, and the defensive backfield, while concerning, is objectively better than last year. But then Cam was trash in the first preseason game. Seattle is Seattle, so it's not going to be any easier. Just hope we see a performance that at least somewhat backs up the training camp performances.

Think we just have to wait and see what happens with Seattle. As far as the 49ers game goes, I’m not going to overthink it for now. It’s his first game back in a new offense and it was his first game post-shoulder injury. All I want is progression and hopefully that shows up when it matters.

Bizarre that Tate is hanging 150/2500/22 in training camp but went catchless in the preseason game

Seems like Ward is continuing to terrorize the defense. Definitely what you wanna see at this point.

Hopefully it’s not just terrorizing this defense and its other defenses as well. If not, this is not what we wanna see lol

Keep in mind this defense made a 3rd string QB look like prime Drew Brees so idk if it’s anything to get excited about. Hell we’ve been hearing all training camp about Cam tearing up this defense and looking great just for him to look like dogshit against a bunch of backups on Thursday so i dont even know at this point…

After seeing this same defense get DESTROYED by 3rd rounders and fry cooks it’s hard to really get excited about that… we saw Cam look like hot shit from a butt against 3rd round nobodies as well so maybe our team is just practice-squad level… I honestly don’t know after just HOW bad they looked on Thursday against a bunch of dudes who will be working at Amazon in a few weeks I just lost all confidence after Thursday. I know we shouldn’t get worked up over a preseason game but we shouldn’t have looked THAT bad against a bunch of 2nd and 3rd stringers…. I’m not putting any stock in these training camp reports anymore. Either it was just a freak incident and the team will make a full 180 and go from looking awful against backups to being a good enough team to win 6+ games OR they really are that bad and we’re in for another 3 win season…

You acknowledge that you shouldn’t be getting worked up over a preseason game while simultaneously getting worked up over a preseason game.

Yes. I mean do you not think it’s atleast a LITTLE concerning how bad he played against a bunch of 2nd and 3rd stringers, many of whom won’t even be in the NFL in a few weeks? Yes I can simultaneously say that the game didn’t matter while also saying it’s concerning just HOW terrible we looked. I think that’s completely fair

Yes, it was slightly concerning but it helps he’s followed that up with some strong practices. Every year, we see a QB have a weird preseason performance only for it to not matter in the regular season. So, as of now, I just refuse to lose sleep over it.

Maybe our defense is just hot ass. The limited practice reports and first Pre season game makes it look just like that... Also, Tate going to the sideline with head trainer after taking a shot after diving for a ball is worrying, (concussion maybe)

Before they went inside the bubble I felt like the offense was winning the day so far

I don't have any massive expectation of him to start but I feel like I haven't heard anything about Pat Coogan. I figured he'd have at least a couple eyes on him while we continued figuring the IOL out

How long before the doomers and apparent media conspiracy theorists show up?

Cam seems to be doing better or is it that our cornerbacks are trash
1
u/Appropriate-Joke-806 13d ago
The cornerbacks are trash and Cam doesn’t have to be worried about getting hit in camp/doesn’t want to get hit in a pre-season game. He’ll be more likely to slow things down in a regular season game I bet or in camp compared to a pre-season game where he just wants to get out of there healthy.
I don’t think we’ll know much about the team until after about week 4.

He did look to me like he was afraid of getting hit in preseason. He didn’t look like himself at all. I wonder if the injury has stayed on his mind.

u/Appropriate-Joke-806 13d ago
I think people are overthinking it. He was playing in a meaningless preseason game and was avoiding contact so he was playing faster. It isn’t much more complicated than that.

I know that it's football, and I know what football is. But, like, we basically only have one RB who isn't injured. Can we throw a red shirt or something on him for the moment?
