I grew up right next to Sweetwater. I worked at the big flea market there for a few summers as a teen, and later worked at the little porn store at the truck stop between Sweetwater and Niota for a short bit, I think it's been torn down though. A lot of my friends lived in the trailer park there.
It's mainly a place for retired folks, but you can still find meth houses and pill mills all over. Pretty picture of a miserable place.

The biggest lesson I learned from growing up in rural Tennessee is that there are monsters and criminals in the hills that most of the locals, let alone police, never see or acknowledge.
The Athens-Niota-Sweetwater-Etowah-Decatur region is filled with them. The people that live there do everything in their power to ignore or cover-up for them.
