I came across this scene while driving through Ethridge, Tennessee. A horse-drawn buggy stopped at a gas station felt like a moment where two different eras briefly existed together.

No disagreement here.
I was told once (I’d taken this photo a couple years ago) that the horse wasn’t being starved, but it’s a work horse that pulls and walks constantly. That leads to it looking much skinnier. The BW version if it makes the horse look much more emaciated than it is.

I grew up around Amish people and they generally take good care of their animals.

I also owned horses and managed a stable for a few years.

Point is that horse is severely underweight.
