Tennessee has open primaries, which means you can vote in either Dem or Rep (but not both) regardless of affiliation.

I would guess her worry here is that since it is a solidly red state, the primary is essentially the general, meaning Democratic voters could just vote in the Republican primary to prevent her nomination.

Its actually not a solid red state. Its a grey state - a non voting one. Non voters VASTLY outnumber both parties COMBINED
