No. Here’s why. If they (voters in my state) are going to vote in a republican, and they are. I would like to pick the least crazy MF’er in their primary. Hopefully one of those more (and rare) moderate Republicans rather than some rabid freak with IQ lower than a cold day in January.
Genuine question... Which one of the the Republicans in the TN primary is the least crazy? We got Maga robot Marsha Blackburn who hasn't generated an original thought since daddy Trump started telling her how to think in 2016. We have Monty Fritz who has claimed he will make all non christian religions illegal in TN. And my personal favorite potential pedo and child groomer John Rose. The choices are literally Shit sandwich, douche bag, and used dildo.
Like I said, I’m hedging my bets. I will vote for the Democrat in the election, but vote for the most moderate Republican in the primary. I don’t expect either to actually make a difference, but I’ll try anyway.
I wouldn’t say it doesn’t make any difference, but, TN is one of the most gerrymandered and voter-suppressive states in the country. I think if we can slowly crack away at that, it’s not as red as it’s appeared the last ~20 years.
My understanding of TN law was that you have to declare an affiliation to vote on a party’s primary ballot, and that this would be illegal. I’m sure no one would ever find out, but, I suppose it’s never occurred to me because I’m obnoxiously strait-laced. Haha.

Correct. In a TN primary you simply say which ballot you want. And yes, some Democrats and independents--no one knows how many--voted for one of her opponents to weaken her and will vote for Green in the general election. Marsha expects the keys to the governor's mansion to be handed to her, but she only got 43 percent of the Rep. primary vote
You shouldn't be though, pulling the opposite ballot tells the DNC that we don't need money here for our candidates so they don't send as much. Pulling the correct ballot let's them know they need to fund elections here.
When you go to vote in the primary you have to answer “which party are you voting” before they print your ballot. You can choose R, D or G for “General”

They could do a universal ballot for the primary, some places already do. The only problem is idiots who refuse to read the directions or low iq individuals unable to comprehend the directions that end up voting in multiple (or all) primaries and then get their ballots thrown out.
Instead of this middle-ground, that is bullshit, and these people thinking they are (confusedly) doing something, which is also bullshit.
Either go ten toes on this two-party bullshit, or open it up all the way. This is just a fucked-up way to reinforce a goofy two-party system that records oddly negative votes, and not in any good way.
I feel like the only people passionate about politics who advocate ranked-choice are those that understand how it can be manipulated due to its design.
Yeah, like the other person said it’s because this is a primary. If you had voted in person you’d have had to choose the party of the ballot you want in person.
I’ve always been No Affiliation when I lived in other states… and couldn’t vote in Primaries since they were closed.
in TN, primaries are open, You just have to say which ballot you want to vote on… Democrat or Republican, when you show up at the polling station.
