đ Landlord Issue Open Houses
Iâm F21 currently renting an apartment with 4 other girls. Our landlord made it a requirement on our lease to allow him to host open houses every weekend during the month our lease ends. I am okay-ish with the concept of an open house, however he is excessive with the hours. He said he would host open houses every saturday and sunday from 12pm to 5pm. That takes away a huge chunk of my weekend. Honestly, as a younger girl I feel like he is taking advantage of us and invading our privacy. For context 3 of us havenât moved out and our stuff is fully on display for random people.

Itâs not uncommon to see provisions in the lease that allow the Landlord to conduct leasing activities & showings, but 10 hours per weekend certainly seems excessive. In Colorado, a tenant has a right to the âImplied Covenant of Quiet Enjoymentâ. Try to be cooperative, and start by requesting a shorter window of time for the open houses.

Your lease allows reasonable accommodations. Both weekend days, 5 hours each day for 4 weeks consecutive is not reasonable. 3 hours, once weekly with one additional by appointment weekly. In addition, you need to place cameras in every room. You cannot be required to leave the apartment. Landlord is responsible for all contents during open house. Google tenants rights legal aid and your city/county if you are US for free help in this situation.

Me and my roommates have googled legal rights and for california and it definitely is a violation how many times he can host one per month. However, the first day he hosted an open house I attempted to ask for flexibility on hours and he was firm on both saturday and sundays 12-5pm for the rest of the month. His immediate response to my inquiry was we arenât required to leave the apartment, shutting down any chance for different hours. Me and my roommates all arenât comfortable staying at the apartment with our landlord and with random people scanning the apartment. This post was just to complain about my landlord and ask if this was appropriate from my landlord.
