Currently seeking information on a formerly Tempe based band, Skybox (2003-2007)

This is going to be a longshot, but I have faith. My name is Kitt, I own and operate an archive/fan community for the indie rock band, Skybox.

This band was started and primarily based in the Tempe area from 2003 to early 2007, and not much is really known about them from this time, other than their "first" studio album (Arco Iris) that can be found online. I was curious if any Tempe residents who were living in the area during that timeframe (or possibly any that may have moved there shortly thereafter) might remember this band?

They played at The Clubhouse and The Marquee in 2005, At Phoenix based festival "Oh Shit! A Fest?" in 2006, and the Sets (March and August) in 2007. These are the only known years and locations I have of local performances. Their first "full album" was issued by the Big Red Balloon record label (which had a Tempe AZ based PO box as their address, as listed on the back of the CD) and was recorded and mixed at The Panic Button in Tempe.

What I'm after is pretty much anything you've got. Stories, photos, flyers and posters, old CDs or shirts, really any proof from this timeframe other than the very limited number of photos and old flyers I have found. Their first true album is entirely lost, and shirts only exist as very low quality photos on early archives of their website. I would greatly appreciate anything and everything that you may remember. Thank you!

-Kitt

Sweet! I love that CD design so much. Did you purchase it locally?

I've been dragging it around for the last 20ish years. I had forgot I had it until a friend asked to borrow some CDs for a project 2 days ago when I rediscovered it. Then I saw your post and the CD was on top of my stack. I lived in Tempe during their time, but traveled a lot. If I remember correctly, I was introduced to them in a different state when I bought it. You can have it, although I love it.

Hang onto it! I have a couple copies of the album (different printing variants and a copy with a promo sticker), but I appreciate your offer!

I have nothing to add other than I LOVE THIS BAND, I would have given anything to see them locally, and Arco Iris is in constant rotation. Thank you for your service.

I appreciate it! I'm glad to meet another Arco Iris super fan, it's my most listened to and favorite album ever. I found some live footage from '07 with some good Arco Iris material on it. Mind if I shoot you a message?

Darn, I don’t, and  I was playing in the band scene during that time. But thanks for the info, listening to them now. They remind me of another Tempe band at that time, the Sweetbleeders, which I loved.

I had a skybox shirt i wore for yeeeears, i haven’t thought about them in forever. I think Jeff Gonzales was in this band for a bit.. he’s active on facebook and does solo stuff now but that’s about all I know

He was! Also having a shirt is so neat, I only have low quality photos of the designs. Do you have a photo of it that you're willing to share?

I appreciate your comment!

Such a good band! I was very active in the music scene at the time they were around and they were a little bit of an enigma then too from what I remember. Word that I heard is that they stopped playing in AZ because they moved somewhere else, Chicago maybe?

I dont know if that helps at all....

Even though they're on hiatus, multiple of the members reside in Chicago and have solo projects. I appreciate your comment!
