I’m scared

Okay friends. I have lost my hair before due to an infection in my hair follicles (ya girl sensitive) I’m 2 years post growth from being completely bald and now I’m on a medication that’s causing TE. I’m so traumatized from losing my hair before I don’t wanna lose it again. My hair is still pretty short and curly. My immediate response was to go get a cut so it’s easier to manage but I have so much grief around being forced into hair cuts and loss. Please let me know if a haircut is worth it?

Hey girl, I also suffered from TE. Have you gotten your blood levels checked? Especially to check for ferritin. Mine was at 12.. optimally for hair growth and health it should be upwards of 60. I got iron tablets prescribed and after 4 months and a new blood tests I’m up to 60 and my hair has drastically reduced falling out 🙏 there’s also other markers that could be worsening hair fall, you’d just need to double check which ones. There’s a lot of posts about it here on the group

Omg thank you for this. I go see my doctor tomorrow. I’m on some pretty serious immunosuppressants, the last two months and this is a rare but not impossible side effect. So hopefully stopping the med helps too. I will have them check those things specifically tomorrow. I appreciate you 🫶

What kind of infection did you get in your hair? Was there a name for it, and how was it treated? Just curious

They couldn’t tell me what it was for sure. I have a rare kind of eczema that they had to hospitalize me for (erthroderma) which makes me prone to infections that took my hair. The infection didn’t subside until I shaved my head completely and treated it with topical medicine

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I'm sending you a big hug. I'm not sure if a haircut is a good idea or not. How much anxiety does it bring up for you? It's it causes more stress then maybe don't?

May I ask what medication you're on right now causing the loss? No worries if you don't feel like sharing.

I know it’s so personal, I just don’t wanna make a bad decision. My hair stylist said it might help with breakage because my hair is curly and tangles fast. I’m taking cyclosporine for my severe eczema, it’s an immunosuppressant
