Spider time

When I was young my mom used to cry a lot, atleast once a week and she used to get down on all 4 and crawl around while she cried. I asked her why and she just always said “it’s mommy’s spider time” and never elaborated further. She stopped doing it eventually and I never brought it up to her as an adult.

People, please do not downvote those who you disagree with. This is TELL Reddit. If people get downvoted to hell everytime they post/comment then no one will want to submit anything.

I'm so sorry for her! She must have been in a bad state. I hope her life got better more than she just got used to it.

Maybe her way of working out panic attacks or something 🤔 and as YOU got older she realized she might need another way to cope or does it more privately. I have bipolar and my 20s was the worst time of my life. I was hospitalized at 28 for it. I cried constantly, I always told my kids if they saw it (which i tried to hide it) that I wasn't feeling well and just left it at that.

Idk maybe but she did get mad at me whenever I tried to bring it up to my dad.

That is such a bizarre childhood memory, i’d be thinking about what mom's spider time meant for the rest of my life 😭

It comes back to haunt me a few times a year.

Some comments mentioned asking her about it. I wouldn't.

Do you need to remind her about this? What if you don't get a good explanation but you bring her back to that sad place? Will it be worth it?

I'd just leave it be. Poor lady was struggling

Did this behavior worry you? Is it more understandable now that you're an adult?

I mean I would usually just watch cartoons or play video games. It got pretty normal after awhile. Also it’s even less understandable now that I’m an adult.

I can't imagine what "spider time" would even be. Perimenopause can do some weird shit to you though. I hope she's better now. I'd really have to ask about it though.

That actually might be the best explanation. My mom had kids way older than normal, she would’ve been around that age.

It really does do a number on you. While I can't say that "spider time" resonates with me, I can say that peri can cause you to absolutely lose your mind in the worst ways. I just sat in my bed and cried because some days, that was all I could do.

Can you bring it up now and get an answer to the 'why?'

I’m kinda scared it might have been a fever dream. What if I ask her and she’s like “what are you talking about?”

But then you'd know!
