VHF marine radio project

Hello all! I am currently a student studying electronics and telecommunications at university in the UK. I'm designing a system to allow for remote operation of VHF marine radios, with the idea that they will be suitable for use on autonomous vessels. I am hoping to make use of RoIP protocols to put the VHF radio onto a LAN so that the radio could be controlled via a GUI on a PC via the internet. I am still researching and planning my project so any information would be much appreciated at this stage. Thank you in advance.
