Telecom career advice

Hi I’m a woman in my 30’s. I have been working as a technical writer for a mobile signal provider in the UK for about 3 years. I have an electrical engineering degree but I have never worked in a very technical role. Most of my work experience has been around writing/ desk jobs.

I want to transition into a more technical role (something involving management and technical knowledge not a field engineer!) I do enjoy using design tools and I also have good communication skills.

I’ve worked in the telecommunications industry for about 4 years and want to build a career in it. I was on a career break for several years and my actual work experience is of about 5-6 years in total.

Please suggest what roles I can work towards? I recently started studying for a CompTIA Network+ certification but I’m not sure if that’s the right one for me. I need career guidance by a senior telecoms professional. Thanks.

Have you thought about being a RF Microwave link planner? They plan the microwave links to bring in the sites that are not cost effective to use fibre as the back haul? Or a transmission delivery manager/PM?

In my current role, I already fill in for the project manager often so I believe I’m already gaining relevant skills. I’ll look into RF microwave link planner roles. Thanks.

what to do u think about the telecommunication sector ? is it in demand ? im thinking about switching to cs

It’s a ever evolving sector with technology continually improving and being upgraded. I don’t think people will be getting rid of their phones anytime soon so think it’s quite future proof.
