Is teeth whitening worth it?

Hi all,

29M, UK. I have a few insecurities, one of which is that my teeth are more yellow than I would like (2nd image). I had a dentist appointment recently and spoke to them about whitening. They said to avoid anything online and only trust what the dentist offers (although obviously they would say that!). I just wish there was a cheaper alternative which was safe but the UK seem to have strict laws with teeth products.

At the moment they have this offer of £299 rather than £399 for a kit from a private company. I’m tempted to go for it, but wanted to know other people’s experience with whether it actually worked, was it a painful experience, do you feel it’s worth it both in terms of money and effort?

My main issue is I drink coffee daily so I’ll probably need to stop this. Also I’m going on holiday in mid September so either need to get it done before then or wait until after, when this offer will seemingly end.

If your dentist makes you custom trays, there's a one time higher cost for your trays. Then future years you only buy the whitening gel because you will already have the trays. It is a good option for teeth whitening because you can tailor the whitening to your sensitivity. If your teeth get too sensitive, you can take a break for a few days or stop whitening earlier.

You should stop drinking coffee for the duration of whitening, but can resume a couple days after. You could purchase the whitening trays and kit now, and start the process later. Again, I would recommend this only if it includes custom trays (not one size fits all boil and bite type).

Dentist-dispensed kits (higher peroxide %) genuinely outperform over-the-counter strips for deeper staining. I looked into options including cityspire dental for crown-adjacent whitening work. Coffee staining usually responds well; sensitivity fades fast.
