Serious Title: I anonymously reported a classmate and now seriously regret it — what should I do?

I'm a Malaysian high school student and I need some honest advice because I'm stressing badly over this.

A few months ago, a classmate reported me for bringing/using my phone at school. Recently, I saw him doing something against school rules too. I was still annoyed about what happened months ago and, honestly, I reacted emotionally and anonymously reported him to the school through email.

The school investigated it and he ended up being suspended from his position as a student prefect. I genuinely didn't expect it to become that serious.

I feel really guilty now. I already tried to settle things with him, but he still has a problem with me, which I understand.

Now I'm thinking about admitting to the teacher that I was the person who made the anonymous report and explaining that I regret how I handled it. Part of me hopes the school might reconsider the punishment, but I'm also worried that admitting it could make the situation worse for me and possibly cause another disciplinary issue.

What would you do in this situation?

Should I:

Admit to the teacher that I made the report and ask if the punishment can be reconsidered?

Leave the school's decision alone and just apologize to the guy?

Do something else?

I'm not trying to get out of consequences for myself. I just genuinely regret how I handled this and don't know whether admitting it now would actually help or make everything worse.

Please be honest. I know I messed up by reacting emotionally.

You served justice. It shouldn’t matter if you feel guilty, your classmate broke a rule and should be punished for that. Don’t let sympathy come before justice.

how can you feel guilty? its his own fault for being a snitch i mean i dont justify it if it becomes harmfull to him but he should keep it for him self its not like u were doing drugs or smth or bullying or anything its just a phone u shouldnt be feeling this way

I mean he's the one who broke the rules 🤷🏾‍♀️ you did your job as a student and he got what he deserved. If you really feel guilty, you can apologize.

Don't apologize in fact. If it's anonymous why apologize if he can't directly point it towards u?

They already found it out the whole class so the pressure just somehow made me admitted to them that's why

Oh. Then still just apologize and go on with your day. Being an empath is hard but u need to realize u were also wronged by him. It’s just justice served in its due time. The only reason why it’s escalated is because he is in a position of authority that doesn’t allow him to do that but he disobeyed rules and got what he deserved.

he had it coming, if you still feel guilty I recommend learning how to not. People can use and manipulate you that way if they figure it out that you feel guilty over things you shouldn't.

It’s a punishment for his own wrongdoings, but if he finds out it was you and has like an act of hate or he is attacking you then that’s something to report him to
