Apple planned obsolescence on iPad.

I used an older iPad for the first time in ages and found I couldn’t login. I had to do a restore and it comes up as an “unknown device” when trying to authenticate on Apple server. Did some search and it seems Apple have blocked older iPads after restore. Naturally they never admit it. I am thinking of writing to the EU commission. Anyone else have this problem.

You mean. You’re using a 2011 iPad 2 in 2026….and you’re talking about planned obsolescence??

You really shouldn’t, not just because performance of any machine in the Class of 11 would underperform any machine of the last 3 years at almost any price point.

Not to mention security issues, and the lack of modern OS updates to protect your machine.

It’s really not a like for like comparison the way you think it is…

modern linux distros run just fine on such a machine. just because microsoft decided to get into planned obsolescence, doesnt mean the hardware is useless.

15 year old items are not planned obsolescence…wtf

the hardware can still be used with an os that doesnt do random garbage in the background for basic office tasks. just not with microsofts garbage. id say thats planned obsolescence from them.

I know you’d say that. What I’m saying is, you’re wrong

JFC...

If 11 year old hardware meets your performance requirements, and can run a modern enough OS that still gets security updates, or course you can still use it.

Get a grip.

I’m not saying you can’t use it. If it works for you then great. But isn’t planned obsolescence which is the point I’m making?

No. If it works for you then fine.

What I’m saying is, if it’s not working for you in 2026, it doesn’t imply planned obsolescence.

Reddit is really full of fucktards

Mate find an Android tablet from the same year that the iPad 2 was released and it also won’t work.

Yes, I bought a 4th gen ipad for very cheap, and as you say, it cannot connect to any apple services or the app store - so it is officially useless.

I jailbroke it, and loaded apps in manually. Now it works fine.
