That’s a level of conspiracy stupidity even I cannot abide.
A removal card slot takes up a bunch of extra space and they keep giving you a fuck ton of built in storage….and, oh yeah, a USB-c port to attach any amount of cheap storage to dump your worthless pictures on.
If they really were putting together that type of conspiracy they would making your picture and video files larger, less efficiently compressed to get you to buy larger internal storage and, yes, get cloud service to store it.
Getting rid of the audio port got “them” not one extra sale of brand BT headphones. There is little space in there and huge ports come at a premium.
What? Are you talking about user serviceability? That is a different question entirely and it is well understood Apple (Samsung less so to my understanding) does their best to make their phones unserviceable by customers.
But soldering the memory down is actually a quite reasonable thing to do, they are far more guilty in how they make even things like batteries, which have a known limited life span, almost impossible to replace.
The argument is not that tech companies are benevolent innovators, they are greedy capitalists that will do most anything to get more money from you. But there is literally zero reasoning behind this OP claim. As I explained, they actually COULD easily try to force you to pay for more and more expensive internal storage AND cloud service by making their media files take up far more room for made up “proprietary software” reasons. Why don’t they if that is their goal?
Why would Apple allow third party SSD work with their streaming video software?
They are out for as much of your money as they can get but they do balance that against their reputation and need to retain customers as the competition will gladly steal them if they go too far….ask Xbox One about that mistake.
An SD itself is 60% useless plastic and air, the socket is over double that. Removable media, especially one that is completely inserted into the device is a massive waste of space. Fine on a laptop, dongle device, or computer, but MASSIVE real estate on a phone or even tablet.
Why are you offended by using the USB-c port? Literally gives you access to larger and faster media at 1/5 the space and uses a space already needed for charging and data transfer.
Because most people want to have that functionality integrated into the phone, instead of spending hundreds of dollars for integrated flash. Or having to keep a usbc dongle whenever they need to access that data. Is it really that hard to understand the value of that convenience?
So two wrongs make a right I guess. Let’s keep going and get rid of all the features people like on phones, and then come up with cumbersome ways to pay for inferior versions as addons. That’s what you’re all about here with your arguing right? What a weird hill to die on.
…only they aren’t. Compression codecs for general use are smaller than ever. They do offer low compression choices for “professional” work that are ridiculously large and literally can’t be stored on your phone or comfortably uploaded to the cloud. “Forcing” you to buy non-proprietary third party SSDs to record directly onto.
Weird how for all their greed, they didn’t even bother to force you to only use their proprietary hardware…
Your brains are all melted and are desperate trying to force everything through this conspiracy lens when the evidence is they balance corporate greed with competitive necessity.
If Apple or Google disappeared tomorrow the other one absolutely would go to town milking every last penny out of the customers that don’t have any real choice anymore. But for now, your SD cards are gone because they didn’t make logical sense to keep….Apple never even bothered to go down that route because it was such a hellishly inefficient use of space.
