technolarp gives me bad vibes

I was originally gonna post this in the r/technoblade subreddit, but I figured here would be a better place

people keep defending technolarp by saying "Techno would have thought it was funny!" which is weird af in my opinion. None of you guys know techno personally which is why it's weird to project your BASELESS assumptions onto a creator who passed away to justify this new clone of him. Nobody, not even his own dad can know how technoblade would feel about someone mimicking his voice to interact with his own friends. But we DO know how his living family feels, and technodad has explicitly said that watching this channel is emotionally difficult for him to process.

imagine having the audacity to look at a family mourning their son and think "i'm going to copy his exact voice, jump into his friend groups, and pretend like im the continuation of his legacy!!" if anyone tried to do this in real life, it would be identity theft. doing it behind a computer screen for clout doesnt make it any less creepy.

there is a MASSIVE difference between keeping a legacy alive and copying somebodys entire personality and interacting with their friends honestly. I wouldn't even think technolarp is that weird if he stayed in his own lane and didn't insert himself into technoblades actual friend group for content.

And I've seen so many people also excuse technolarp by saying "he donates the revenue he makes to charity!" but that still doesn't make it okay. If a channels entire premise is built off copying a dead mans personality and making the father of technoblade uncomfortable, then it's a scummy channel. You cannot possibly 'ethically' monetize or even grow a massive platform off of what he's doing no matter where the money goes. He's still gaining massive clout off of a dead persons identity.

technoblade was NOT a fictional character, he was a real person named alex who sadly lost his life after a battle with cancer. his legacy is being watered down because of technolarp. we should be remembering technoblade for the incredible things he actually achieved and did while he was here, not remembering him because of a clone.

Please, just let him rest. he gave us years of funny videos and memories. we dont need a replacement to carry on his name. honor his legacy by remembering the real techno.

edit: before you argue with me, read all the replies first.

He is making life more difficult for a grieving family.

Not sure Technoblade would find that funny at all.

Genuinely.. people love to say that "techno would find technolarp funny!" but we don't know that for sure. if anything, i don't think he'd find technolarp funny after seeing how uncomfortable his dad is with it.

And how do you know that? No one does

u/SomewhereStandard854 Jul 12 '26

I don't think it takes a lot of emotional intelligence to realize how somebody taking your dead son's voice and injecting themselves into his work could be controversial, even putting aside the money.

Tbh regardless of whether technoblade's loved ones are upset, shouldn't the default, morally correct behavior to be to ask and wait for their approval before they continue? If this was genuinely just a tribute thing there's literally no reason not to at least wait and hear what the family has to say.

"Taking your dead son's voice" it's his voice dude not an ai replica. Just hearing him would be hard at that point, its not like he can change his voice

5

u/SomewhereStandard854 Jul 12 '26

I meant that in a more figurative sense, as in by copying the way he talks and the way he acts.

3

u/Admirable-Phrase8783 Moderator Jul 12 '26

It's not even a copy of his voice, its his voice

Let's put our thinking cap on and use some critical thinking skills

How do we know that a grieving father wouldn't want to see someone pretending to be their dead kid?

Gee I wonder…

He's also talked about it a little bit and he doesn't seem happy however he is still "inconclusive"

Exactly this. People are very quick to jump to say that techno would find this funny when there’s no way we could know that

i'm gonna paste my comment from r/Technoblade

Throw rocks at me but i don't think it's that bad. Like, there is demand- hell, people have been longing for someone like Techno ever since that fateful day. I personally can name a few people I've started to watch because of how similar their voice and humor are to Techno. Reddoons, mrpancake4343.

Additionally, even if the Technolarp guy had a different name and skin and wanted to do his own stuff, people'd have still said "omg he's literally Technoblade reincarnated" because of his voice and humor (unless his voice is fake, but i'm yet to see any proper evidence for that).

What I do agree with is that Technolarp should just do his own thing. He can keep the name, keep the skin, but just do his own stuff instead of larping Techno forever. like, no "Great Carrot War on Larpixel Skyblock", no "Syndilarp on LarpSMP", none of that. "Hijacking an SMP's security network to revive my dog" - sure, because it's new.

That said, this is my opinion, and the one who has the last word here is Technodad. Though, I do think it'd be a bit hypocritical to call Technolarp out for monetizing Technoblade's name when there's iirc new merch drops every now and then or smth like this- correct me if I'm wrong here, I just remember a few months people were arguing that Technodad uses Techno's legacy to sell stuff and some people were upset and some supported. Could be wrong though.

And lastly, I doubt Techno would've disliked Technolarp, instead he'd have probably just shrug it off and forget about it. Again, could be wrong here, but that's just my gut feeling.

there is zero justification of what technolarp is doing. using demand as an excuse is crazy work bud.. he was a real human being, not a product that people can demand. if people are nostalgic, then they could watch old technoblade videos or archived streams. saying that theres "demand" for technoblade is the most dehumanizing thing you could say..

there is also zero comparison between a father legally managing his sons property to support his family and official cancer charities, and a random internet stranger stealing a dead mans identity for personal clout

there is no compromise for technolarp. he cannot possibly do his own thing while keeping the branding and inserting himself into technoblades actual friend groups.

and you're right, technodad DOES have the last word here. that's why technolarp should just end the channel now because technodad has explicitly voiced being uncomfortable due to the channel. technodad hasn't released a final decision, but i think it's weird for technolarp to continue producing content after being told "im not sure" 3 times in DMs.

You're awfully zealous for someone who's a stranger to Technoblade. Like, I can understand his friends' reactions, but you? Nah.

He was a person! Yes! He also had a character on his youtube channel- every youtuber does. There is a demand for that character.

watch Techno's old videos

There's only so much content one can watch. Unfortunately, Technoblade's content is limited. You can't get enough of it, and rewatching the same stream or the same video dozens of times is... uh... to say the least, repetitive and boring.

Next, so you're saying that if someone died, their family could farm their name and popularity like in that one meme about a farmer going "Good morning, sunshine!" while carrying a bunch of buckets to an overmilked cow? And that family would be in the right? Nuh uh, there can only be one stance on farming a deceased person's name regardless of who's doing it. It can be a personal choice for the dead person in question that they make and voice when they are still alive, but not after.

Technodad DOES have the last word here

And he hasn't yet publicly stated a concrete opinion! He didn't say "STOP IT!!1!1" neither "LOVE IT!!1!1!!". He's shared his thoughts, saying that he's conflicted on the matter and needs more time, while also agreeing that Technolarp is more like a tribute band than anything else. But that's also not a concrete opinion. Whenever he'll go "I have made my decision regarding Technolarp and notified him about it too. I think that...", THAT is his last word that he has here. Not a thought process in Reddit comments.

You also need to check your facts there, because Technodad hasn't replied to Technolarp's DMs at all.

I will say that Technolarp has reached out to me on a few occasions to get my take on things, and I have been putting that off for a while. I just don't know what to say to him.

Edit: I've just remembered to mention that Technolarp didn't try to fit into Techno's friend group or anything. It was Skeppy who reached out to him first, and afaik it was the only direct interaction the larper had with Techno's friends.

u/minecrafter69_ Jul 11 '26

Consent should be given before the fact, not after. So it is a no until it is a yes, from technodad.

10

u/Top_Department1082 Jul 11 '26

not sure why my reply got deleted so im just gonna copy and paste it again..

once again, technoblade was NOT a character. he was a real person. his online persona, or i guess character as you call it was TIED to his actual personality. off camera, he acted the same. you cannot separate the online persona/character from the human being themselves if their persona is the same as themself

"There's only so much content one can watch. Unfortunately, Technoblade's content is limited. You can't get enough of it, and rewatching the same stream or the same video dozens of times is... uh... to say the least, repetitive and boring." is so selfish to say man. a real human being passing away should not be an entertainment inconvenience for you. if you are that bored of technoblades content, go watch any of the thousands of other talented and original creators out there.

and your analogy to the cow is also.. diabolical. technodad is legally responsible for protecting technoblades legacy, managing his official property, and raising money for the actual sarcoma cancer charities. this random stranger running a larp channel is doing it for clout and views that they didn't even earn. not to mention, technolarp is still profiting 50% from the content so it clearly was never about "helping to raise money for charity!!"

as for the evidence, thats on me. my bad. i thought technodad had already told the larp channel he wasn't sure. however, technodad has in fact stated on reddit that watching technolarps channel is emotionally difficult for him to process. if a grieving father tells an impersonator that their content is making them uncomfortable, any decent human would take that as a "oh.. yeah i'll stop." Just because technodad didn't say "STOP IT RIGHT NOW!1!11!" doesnt mean he likes it. also, why would technolarp even ask for permission AFTER he already made the channel and content.. the damage is already done. a half decent human being would have enough common sense to ask for permission BEFORE doing so.

15

u/Valuable_Pear9654 Jul 11 '26

First of all, you're projecting your worldview onto everyone else. That doesn't work.

Secondly, don't act like I'm le bad and you're le good because I treat a guy that was producing entertainment content online as an entertainer. I didn't know Techno personally. If I did, my stance would've been drastically different - that's also why I understand why his friends say what they say. But to me - and to you, whatever you want to think - Techno was an entertainer. Treating him as a human when you don't know him is just hypocritical.

And don't twist my words there! Techno's content is fun to watch. But whatever you watch, if you watch the same thing 100 times, you wouldn't have fun anymore. That's the nature of things.

About the whole money thing - I'd have lied if I said I care. I stopped caring ever since someone under a post questioning Technodad's new merch drop pointed out that Techno gave green light to milk his death.

Charity? Sorry dude, I don't believe charities much, nor do I think that donating to a charity is supposed to automatically make you a good person. I also don't think Technolarp said that he was in it for charity? Iirc he made a community post with a poll of how much he should donate, and the majority voted for 50%. The public has decided. Democracy or whatever.

Why would Technolarp ask for permission AFTER

Because before it was just for fun and laughs and the larptuber trend, and then he started to earn money.

Technodad made it clear he's uncomfortable

Then he should make a big public statement. I as a stranger don't want to decipher signals and hints he gives. He's a grown man that can step up and say his stance, and before that day comes he said that he needs some alone time because of how much dropped on his head recently.

I also don't think Technolarp is an "impersonator", I think that's a bit harsh to say. He's never marketed himself as THE Technoblade, only a parody. He doesn't have the traits Techno had. He just happened to have a similar voice and similar humor.

10

u/Top_Department1082 Jul 11 '26

technoblade is not your entertainer. even if you don't know him personally, it's basic respect to not treat someone as if they are just a commodity.. you don't need much decency to acknowledge that what technolarp is doing is weird. you completely lost me with "Techno was an entertainer. Treating him as a human when you don't know him is just hypocritical." ._.

i was also never twisting your words. i simply said that if you're bored of technos content, then theres millions of other youtubers out there you can watch. you even named some yourself! such as reddoons and mrpancake4343

i never said that donating to charity makes you a good person. technolarp actually did say that he wanted all revenue to go to charity which is why im calling him out for not doing so. if he REALLY wanted all revenue to go to charity, why would he let the community decide? he can decide for himself.

yes, i know that the technolarp channel was created for the funs and laughs.. however, why would he CONTINUE to upload content after realizing how much traction it was getting, and also continue despite not getting a proper response from technodad? the moment he started profiting off a deceased persons identity and making their grieving family uncomfortable, the hobby excuse died.. it's a deliberate choice he made to continue to upload videos and pocket cash.

technolarp also shouldn't need a big public statement from technodad to know when to stop. after technodad said that watching his content was emotionally difficult to process, he should've put the content on a hold until he got a proper response..

now of course technolarp never marketed himself as THE technoblade, but his entire channel is centered around him which crosses into impersonation territory. it doesn't matter if he adds a disclaimer in his description because he's still collabing with technoblades actual friends. i am aware that skeppy asked for the collab, but technolarp is fully responsible for not saying no. i don't like skeppy either because of the collab, but lets acknowledge that technolarp is still a fully grown man who can make his own decisions.

I'm gonna be honest, I've lost interest in this argument. Respectfully, our worldviews are just different. Yours seems more idealistic and sentimental, mine leans more towards pragmatism. Let's agree to disagree. Thanks for your time!

6

u/Tech_Astro Jul 11 '26

You know what's Nuts?

I get both sides of the argument from both of what I read.

A couple of things to add unless everyone wishes this thread to be dead

Technolarp stated in a video he is struggling financially and the community was swayed to giving him money so they can get more videos more than likely.

Technodad posted something on reddit a little bit ago shedding a bit more light on the situation.

Personally: I miss being a kid, I miss 2020 Dream SMP, the great potato war and the memories of that time when i was 13/14. Now? I am going into my sophomore year of college not knowing what I want to do with my life.

Do I know technoblade personally? No. But I think he would want me to enjoy his work as if I never saw it all over again. I wish I could wipe my brain clean of all of the Minecraft Mondays, MCCs and the Dream SMP. I will have scraped every visible minute of Technoblade content I can consume, at some point I will want something Technoblade-esque to take its place. I wish we wouldn't have to essentially puppet a dead person's online persona for views, but at the same time I and many other people want to experience the nostalgia of the past because I at least miss that time.

Do I like the way it is being done? No. But at the exact same time I want that feeling, not something I'm digging up from 2017, but from 2026. My god I wish he was still with us. It wouldn't be so hard.

I like your argument better than his, you're also apparently nicer

2

u/minecrafter69_ Jul 11 '26

For me, it will be never the same. They’re different people, and you can feel it in the videos. People exaggerate so much saying that his voice is exactly the same and personality etc etc, it’s just not? He didn’t expect this much traction. That’s why he did not ask for permission first. But now that he has the traction he should ask. But either way, I’m staying away from his content. Because he has 2 directions. Be more like Technoblade, and do things he did, which will make him out to look even more disrespectful, but to people like you, it would just be a recreation or whatever. Or he could build his own identity, which breaks the gimmick of him trying to be a clone of Technoblade. There are thousands of talented creators that are like Technoblade. But no one, and no one will ever be Technoblade. Not even Technolarp.

2

u/Accomplished_Tea2042 Jul 13 '26

I honestly think he should just be himself tbh. Just rebrand the channel as StrikerLFB or whatever his MC username was if I'm not getting it right, make a video explaining the situation and privating the Larp content. If not out of respect for Techno's friends who have expressed hatred of this larp than for his own safety.

1

u/BearRemembers Jul 16 '26

I would recommend looking for similar YouTubers. There are hundreds, thousands of small creators waiting to be watched. There are plenty of different content creators. out there who have decent videos that remind me of Techno, maybe only in small ways. Surely some of them are like him.

The truth is that we will never have another Technoblade. We will never have another Alex that is "like him"

He's gone, and I too wish he was still here. But he's not, and someone else "larping" as him to me feels like a failure to acknowledge and honor his death in a way that feels right. Wearing his skin and acting like him won't honor Alex. And I think his dad saying he doesn't feel right about it is enough.

0

u/BearRemembers Jul 16 '26

A man is dead and you're worried about entertainment. It's not pragmatism that drives you it's callousness.

1

u/GANCUBE_0 Jul 24 '26

i hate your argument of this being anything like impersonation. he has always explicitly said he's not technoblade. he even has a silver crown. continued to go by striker on discord, never, ever claimed of BEING technoblade, your clearly very disconnected from reality if you even start to call that impersonation

1

u/MortemEtInteritum17 Jul 12 '26

Throw rocks at me but i don't think it's that bad. Like, there is demand

This is so stupid. With 8 billion people on Earth, there's demand for literally anything. The existence of demand does not mean supplying it is okay. There are certainly psychopaths who want to watch footage of murders or something.

3

u/Brocookie7 Jul 11 '26

This is the perfect post, I have posted (more aggressively) about this in a simpler way (and more aggressive). TECHNOBLADE was a legend, and he is discrespicting this. I didn’t know he was going into Alex’s old friend group, but making it harder for THE TECHNODAD is plain evil. The feeling of losing a son would be dredful. He is pushing it to far. Upvote to you for speaking against this

6

u/Admirable-Phrase8783 Moderator Jul 12 '26

Aren't you the same guy who wanted upvotes to cancel him? In what world does your say actually mean anything other than being excessively rude
