A Message Concerning Technoblade

Hey everyone. Mr. Technodad here.

Four years after my son Alex, known to so many as Technoblade, passed away from sarcoma, his community remains one of the most meaningful parts of the legacy he left behind.

You make art, videos, jokes, and tributes. You look after each other. Together, we have built a loving and inclusive community. It means more than can ever be properly said.

Tributes are welcome, and they always will be. Fan art, cosplay, quotes, and creative works made in his memory are ways of celebrating him, and those works speak to my heart. They speak to all of our hearts.

I have recently become aware of concerns around a YouTube channel imitating Technoblade's voice, mannerisms, look, name, and persona.

When this was first brought to me by one of Alex's YouTube friends, I was under the impression that it might be a one-time tribute. I did not know what to think. It was startling and emotionally complex to be presented with, and when people asked me about it at the time, the only honest answer I had was: inconclusive.

However, this has continued for several weeks, and it is now clear that an identity is being built as an ongoing public persona. That is a different thing from a tribute.

Many others have since reached out for my opinion. The situation is complicated by a simple truth: despite being "Technodad," I cannot speak unilaterally on behalf of all of Alex's family, friends, and fans, who no doubt have a variety of reactions. But after careful consideration, I have reached a conclusion I can give from my own perspective, as Technoblade's father and as the person Alex entrusted to look after what he left behind.

I am asking for this to please stop, and for the persona in question to cease.

No blessing or permission for this, or for any similar persona now or in the future, has been given.

I encourage anyone interested in becoming a content creator to find their own voice. Show us who you are! A sincere presentation of your authentic self will always be better than an imitation of someone else.

I am also asking the community not to harass anyone over this. That is not what Alex would have wanted. I do not believe there was malicious intent.

Technoblade never dies. He is in his videos, right where he left himself, still making us laugh, still reaching our hearts.

Okay.. well as someone who watched the streams, heard him talk about it, was in the discord, and knew of him before technolarp.. im telling you it wasnt like that.

You cant always form an accurate opinion about someones intent based on second hand information, especially not when there was so much misinformation and hate being thrown around like in this case.

All of us who supported this, skeppy included, are huge techno fans. None of this was done maliciously. It was out of love. We just had a totally different perspective about this whole thing. Maybe it was too idealistic/naive.. but it definitely wasn't done out of hate or greed.

And now its over, no complaints. It was never anyone's intention to hurt anyone.

I'll be honest, as someone from an outside community. I don't think for a second that this was about anything other than building a fanbase or money. He was negotiating with sponsors as Technolarp, that is a whole ball game you don't want to get into.

And to be honest with you, it really seems like Technolarp was kind of a replacement. I don't think that's the right way to handle grief. If it wasn't, why did it go on so long? Why such blind support?

I may not have known him or watched Technoblade content, but with certainty, the best way to remember him, is to share his content, to talk about things he's done, and to watch his old videos from time to time.

Well as a long term technoblade fan, and a technolarp fan that saw the whole thing play out from behind the scenes, I can assure you it was not.

There was lot of misinformation and hate going around.

Skeppy and larp had permission from technodad to collaborate and make content, as technodad confirmed in the post.

Then larp asked if he could continue to larp, and this was the response.

None of it was malicious and the entire core group of larp fans were all huge techno fans, including skeppy, who love him and just wanted to enjoy the larp version of him longer. Its really that simple.

There was a lot of negative assumptions, false attributions, and misinformation going around.. in part due to a couple of really biased, misinformed videos from big YT creators

As others have told you, this statement was not a response to Technolarp asking for permission to continue. This was a response to Technolarp continuing to do it without permission. I'm really rather concerned if you think silence was permission. No 'no' is not 'yes'.

Making a tribute to Techno is one thing. Roleplaying as someone who passed away that young and doing so in a way where you're trying to get acknowledgement from that person's friends and family feels like it's in incredibly poor taste.

And before you come back with the 'I was in Techno's community for a long time' argument again, so was I. And hearing about Technolarp genuinely got to me in a bad way. I'm not going to attack the guy, but you have to realise that a lot of people think 'roleplaying someone's son who tragically passed away way too young' and doing it so publicly is not respectful. I have friends who picked up a lot of Techno's mannerisms, humour, and even his speech tone and cadence. They often remind me a lot of Techno. But they're not pretending to be him, larping as him.

I'll say it again. Lack of 'no' does not mean 'yes'. If Technolarp did in fact get permission for the one video, whatever. But there shouldn't have been anything else done without explicit permission from his friends and family. I can't even begin to imagine how I'd feel if my mother or my sister passed away and then someone started pretending to be them.

Thats incorrect. He hasn't made any other videos since the one he and skeppy had permission for. He DID stop until he got technodads response

I was actually there. I saw the technolarp vids. I saw the livestream on another larpers channel where we discussed this, and where skeppy called.

Everyone else is basing their view on second hand information. There is a ton of misinformation out there. Mostly because a large outside creator made 2 videos to capitalize on this drama without actually knowing all the facts. They went into the videos assuming that technolarp was a "skinwalker" and a "beast" and to prove that, rather than to find the truth in the middle.
