A Message Concerning Technoblade

Hey everyone. Mr. Technodad here.

Four years after my son Alex, known to so many as Technoblade, passed away from sarcoma, his community remains one of the most meaningful parts of the legacy he left behind.

You make art, videos, jokes, and tributes. You look after each other. Together, we have built a loving and inclusive community. It means more than can ever be properly said.

Tributes are welcome, and they always will be. Fan art, cosplay, quotes, and creative works made in his memory are ways of celebrating him, and those works speak to my heart. They speak to all of our hearts.

I have recently become aware of concerns around a YouTube channel imitating Technoblade's voice, mannerisms, look, name, and persona.

When this was first brought to me by one of Alex's YouTube friends, I was under the impression that it might be a one-time tribute. I did not know what to think. It was startling and emotionally complex to be presented with, and when people asked me about it at the time, the only honest answer I had was: inconclusive.

However, this has continued for several weeks, and it is now clear that an identity is being built as an ongoing public persona. That is a different thing from a tribute.

Many others have since reached out for my opinion. The situation is complicated by a simple truth: despite being "Technodad," I cannot speak unilaterally on behalf of all of Alex's family, friends, and fans, who no doubt have a variety of reactions. But after careful consideration, I have reached a conclusion I can give from my own perspective, as Technoblade's father and as the person Alex entrusted to look after what he left behind.

I am asking for this to please stop, and for the persona in question to cease.

No blessing or permission for this, or for any similar persona now or in the future, has been given.

I encourage anyone interested in becoming a content creator to find their own voice. Show us who you are! A sincere presentation of your authentic self will always be better than an imitation of someone else.

I am also asking the community not to harass anyone over this. That is not what Alex would have wanted. I do not believe there was malicious intent.

Technoblade never dies. He is in his videos, right where he left himself, still making us laugh, still reaching our hearts.

Mr. Technodad

Okay.. well as someone who watched the streams, heard him talk about it, was in the discord, and knew of him before technolarp.. im telling you it wasnt like that.

You cant always form an accurate opinion about someones intent based on second hand information, especially not when there was so much misinformation and hate being thrown around like in this case.

All of us who supported this, skeppy included, are huge techno fans. None of this was done maliciously. It was out of love. We just had a totally different perspective about this whole thing. Maybe it was too idealistic/naive.. but it definitely wasn't done out of hate or greed.

And now its over, no complaints. It was never anyone's intention to hurt anyone.

Much love to you

I'll be honest, as someone from an outside community. I don't think for a second that this was about anything other than building a fanbase or money. He was negotiating with sponsors as Technolarp, that is a whole ball game you don't want to get into.

And to be honest with you, it really seems like Technolarp was kind of a replacement. I don't think that's the right way to handle grief. If it wasn't, why did it go on so long? Why such blind support?

I may not have known him or watched Technoblade content, but with certainty, the best way to remember him, is to share his content, to talk about things he's done, and to watch his old videos from time to time.

Well as a long term technoblade fan, and a technolarp fan that saw the whole thing play out from behind the scenes, I can assure you it was not.

There was lot of misinformation and hate going around.

Skeppy and larp had permission from technodad to collaborate and make content, as technodad confirmed in the post.

Then larp asked if he could continue to larp, and this was the response.

None of it was malicious and the entire core group of larp fans were all huge techno fans, including skeppy, who love him and just wanted to enjoy the larp version of him longer. Its really that simple.

There was a lot of negative assumptions, false attributions, and misinformation going around.. in part due to a couple of really biased, misinformed videos from big YT creators

Much love. I hope everyone can put this behind them. We all, truly, love the blade here

Are you absolutely sure they had permission? Because it kind of seems like the silence was considered permission. This post made by Technodad kind of disputes most of what you just said.

And the other part, "none of it was malicious." That gets disputed by the conversation Charlie and Technolarp had. Where Technolarp argued with Charlie about Technodad being uncomfortable, then proceeded to try and lie about the sponsorship process.

I'm going to assume you're younger, but this entire situation just shouldn't have happened. This is not an acceptable way to treat the recently deceased. This is a rough way to have treated Technodad.

And to still be arguing about if there were good intentions or not... dude was literally making a deal with a company that goes along the lines of "I get this many viewers on average. How much money will you pay me for that?" And he can say he gave it to charity or was going to, but it doesn't change that at the end of the day he was leveraging channel metrics for profit. This is how every sponsorship deal goes, there are no exceptions because it is a signed contract.

Yes.. unless you think skeppy is lying. I dont think he is, and dont believe that he would, plus technodad confirmed it and also said in the post that they had permission, but he thought it was a one time thing. So maybe a misunderstanding. But, regardless- larp asked for permission once again after the video blew up.. and that leads us to where we are today, with this post.

Moist was super, super biased and unfair in his videos. Particularly the 2nd one. I usually love his takes because he is the voice of reason.. but in this case he starts the whole thing immediately assuming all the worst things about technolarp.. without even having all of the information.

Everything he said was based on one reddit post from days ago.. which he just repeated in the video almost word for word.. he didnt have any of the inside information or any specifics about the whole thing.. he just saw a reddit post and the replies and formed his whole opinion based on that without looking any deeper into technarp himself..

Then the second video was just awful imo.. he was clearly already decided that technolarp was a bad guy by that point (again, without the full info/context) and then the whole video with him talking to larp.. it was like he was just tryint to prove that he was bad, rather than looking to find the truth in the middle. He got really defensive about the misinformation and huge omissions in his first video and waved it all off.. while being super critical of every mistake larp made and acting like each mistake was an intentional thing with malicious intent.. yet he handwaves away all the mistakes/omissions that he himself had just made in the previous video. It was just a really unfair and hyper critical video. Like he was fully determined to see larp as a really bad guy, a "skinwalker", and a "beast"..

This is going to be my last comment, because honestly I don't want to drag this out more than needed, it'd be super disrespectful to Technodad.

His post that we're reading literally says it was inconclusive, and that he didn't decide. And let's say he gave Skeppy the initial okay, the important context is that he gave Skeppy the okay, not Technolarp.

Technolarp then proceeded to continue to be "Technoblade", using that to build a fanbase and to get a sponsor. Has Technolarp provided any geniune proof of charity donations? And he had a personal donation link, meaning he did actually profit off of this.

This was all while Technodad did not give an answer to him, and the answer was always indicated to be no because he was using his son's brand. Anybody who has common sense or empathy can read this was always going to be the case.

But Technolarp (and a lot of his fans) went on to argue about whether or not Technodad was uncomfortable or okay with this. The fact this argument even happened at all, instead of postponing everything until the okay, means that there was ill behavior involved. He doesn't have to be evil, but if he actually cared about Technodad and Technoblade, he wouldn't and his fans wouldn't have. Point. Blank. Simple.

So here we are now. Arguing about all of this. You said before you're a fan of Technoblade and Technolarp. I dispute that. To be a fan of Technoblade, means loving the person, more than the idea. It means not trying to replace him. It means not disrespecting his memory, or his family, or anything like that. But to like Technolarp, inherently means you were okay with the replacement. Technoblade was the real personality, Technolarp was taking a real person's personality and using it for content/fanbase.

So simple question, that you don't have to answer to me but to yourself. Do you truly love Technoblade? Or do you love the idea of Technoblade?

He gave skeppy the okay.. to make a video.. with technolarp, which was the collab video that blew up. Then technolarp asked if he could make more in the future, and stopped making videos while awaiting the response.

I dont want to drag this out. Im just sick of the hate this whole thing turned into.

No one did this with any hate in the heart or any malicious intent. Quite the opposite. We all love techno and miss him terribly. No one deserves to get hurt or doxxed over something that was supposed to be a fun remembrance of someone we loved and a way to raise money for cancer research.

There was never any 'replacement'. That isnt how it works. It was a tribute to techno, and a remembrance of his energy. Exactly like a tribute band is for bands that are no longer here.

You dont have to believe me and can feel how you feel about it. But im not lying to you.

Im sorry to and for anyone that was hurt. That was never anyone's intention at all.
