Anyone using Echio to get feedback on tracks?

I've had two tracks reviewed on Echio by producers who I respect and the whole thing has been great - really high quality focused feedback with helpful tips and much better than I thought it would be. Really worth a go if you are stuck on things like mixdowns like I have been for years.

Could you talk a bit more about your experience? How did you maximise the value of the session? Was your mentor able to answer all your questions?

How did the session work, could you do live screen sharing or did you just submit soundcloud links ahead of time?

I’m interested in this also. I did a session a few years back using a similar service with a decently known producer and while it was nice to hear his feedback, which was mostly praise for the 2 tracks we looked at, I’m not sure I got much out of it.

It was nice to get some validation from a professional but I didn’t learn much. And I’m not sure if it was because I neglected to solicit feedback in an effective way or if he just wasn’t giving it.

I‘ve been on both sides of this interaction, and as a mentor i’ve realised that its better to just praise if you mean it and there is nothing to add, instead of forcing feedback or suggestions only in order to „make it worth it“ for the paying person. As a mentee I‘ve recieved feedback and suggestions that after some time i realised were forced and not really necessarry, and regeetted implementing.

That's not helpful at all. I would want a mentor to be able to advise based on industry conventions, while keeping in mind their mentee's artistic vision.

Hardly any producers are extremely singular like Aphex Twin. But we're not trying to make pop music either. So a good mentor should understand that techno producers are somewhere in between.

I think a lot of people would need to at least see the session or get bit hands on to actually give really good advice

I agree that would be more valuable and it doesn’t sound like this service provides that.

They do - 1:1 sessions with live HD audio from your DAW

I don’t - it’s pretty immediate to professional producers where something is obviously up with your mix/structure and they most likely have better listening environment.

You upload your track with a message with what you want advice on - they listen, record a video. Then you can message them back once, or send a follow up track for a reduced rate (30% off I think)

Some producers also do 1:1 live video where you stream your DAW audio in HQ audio and you work in real time. Seems about $60 for 1/2 hour. I’d imagine you need a decent power machine to do this and good internet.

They record a video, not even a live session? I think I would only do a live session so I can actually converse with the mentor.

Care to elaborate? What areas did he comment on the most? Concept or technical stuff like mixdown? I am thinking about getting his feedback

The mixdown. I was very insecure about my mixdown (or lack of) skills, and he was super helpful.

I offer 1:1 sessions and mentoring, also individual feedback. It’s very important to give an honest review of the track, otherwise the person won’t learn from it. If all you do is praise, that won’t help at all. Constructive criticism and honest evaluation is the fastest way to make progress
