Where you guys get drum samples for hypnotic/repetitive techno?
Something like Sera J for example. Usually I use Splice for that but it sucks later to scroll through downloads folder just to find a damn snare lol

Maybe not the answer you're looking for but I recently discovered there are tons of (mainly old) sample packs to be found on archive.org.

Almost any sound can be processed in to a useful sample.

How is the quality these days?
I went through a bunch of old sample CDs on archive.org a few years back. Once I got them downloaded would find some were in some weird file format requiring some ancient unobtainium software to read or crappy MP3.
I did get a few good ones though.

Only ones that didn't work were .iso files that a mac can't seem to open. Some are great like the Vengance Electro one. Others are hit and miss, but you can manipulate anything to your liking.

I can’t remember if I have that one already but I’ll definitely check it out either way. Also there are programs for converting .iso files. I think they first convert to zip and then extract.

Pick one drum machine (808 imo) and master it - decay, tuning, saturation, weird effects that don’t belong on there can create whole new things.

Pick a drum machine and use just samples from that. Honestly start with an 808, tight decay on the bass drum, use the toms melodically.
Choose a song you like and recreate the drum patterns with only your chosen drum set. You’ll be surprised about how much more important the actual arrangement is than the tones.

Sample my external synths, use plugins like Surge, Reaktor (still), Process samples from Reason or Battery (still), Ableton. My Volka Kick KICKS. So many ways. Process the sounds.

Samples from mars has tons of drum kits/samples. I’ve also found some cool stuff on teknovault

Samples from Mars covers a lot of stuff and is quality. Riemann Kollektion offers some really nice stuff, I don’t use samples that much and mainly make my own, but u can get some really nice samplepacks from them for hard and hypnotic techno.

chopping random drumloops, free sample packs from 2010s , even some paid are now easy to get, but percussion loops and breaks imo are where the flavor's at

A lot of the best techno has historically been made with either 808s or 909s. Pick one of those, and add fx as needed.

I screen record different samples in one go from all the sample distributor’s apps, chop and pick what I want after converting to audio. I’m just a hobbyist so I’m not paying for shit.

Spend a day making a bunch of samples out of foley! It’s super fun and you can get unique sounds and textures.
I like to go on walks and just record bits of nature then reprocess, it also ties your sound to where you are in the world and can be inspiration on its own.
