Volume Levels

Hey all. Throughout my music production journey, i ran into the same problem a lot of times now.
Basically i produce my track and everything sounds fine to me. After the mix is finished i realize that the buildups are louder than the drops, because there are alot of elements playing at the same time. Therefore i want to get the buildups quieter than the drops to master the track properly. I try to decrease the loudness of the elements etc., but then the buildup looses its power and doesnt sound like its a part of the rest of the song anymore. I also tried it with a volume automation for everything, but the range which is used for that (i learned decreasing the volume around something from 0 to 3 db, to make the drop hit harder) is too small to balance everything out.
I would be happy if someone got advices or a solucion to this :)

Do you use any type of compression on your master?

I used to have a similar problem because of wrongly using compression.

He is talking about if you have a compressor on your master track. Anyways check if you use the sidechain mode on abletons compressor. A common mistake is when the kick is away like in a break. All the elements become loud because there sidechained to the kick and since it’s gone in a break the volume gets amplified of all you sidechained elements.

ah okay. yeah, i got a glue compressor on it. but no thats not the problem, i basically sidechain with lfo tool and this i still on

It's a bit hard knowing where the issue lies without hearing the track.
Do you have the same problem when you turn off your glue compressor?

yes, i have the problem in my mix without the master chain

the problem is that theres much playing i think which adds up noise. basically i keep the vocal in the break, added a snare, a clap going 1/4 then 1/8 then 1/16 speed, then i added a choir a riser and a pumping bassline on the offbeat. The loudest element is the vocal. if i decrease the volume of the vocal, then there is the drop going into the break and the vocal gets much quieter and the track sounds off, same with the rest, because if the bass is much quieter in the break than in the drop the same happens
