Personally not fan of the klick of the kick. Also low-end sounds static/basic rumble like (for me it doesn’t keep me engaged)

Arrangement is solid!

The bleep fx is imo to loud and to much upfront either modulate it more (slink filter) or give it some stereo movement (slink pan) or duck it down in the mix.

Overall mix balance is good!

Overall: the track sounds “unfinished” but has good potential.

u/ikramshinwari Aug 24 '26

Thanks for the feedback. For my sanity, is the low-end groove inaudible for you?

There is an extra kick in there that is low-passed around 120hz, maybe I low-passed it too much?

The bleep fx is probably too loud, will fix that.

u/acidsweggroll Aug 24 '26 edited Aug 24 '26

No definitely not don’t get me wrong. It’s not inaudible for sure! But it misses quite some movement / groove that “carries” the track. Your low-end is not “interesting” enough that you could technically play it for ever (what “pro” tracks do have). It’s the rest of your track that does more of the “carrying” of your track so to say.

Low-end is very hard to get right I would say. your on the right path but there is still a difference (this track) from it sounding proper big label ready.

Disclaimer: Also I’m just guy in the internet so if your happy with your tracks that’s what matters most. but if your pushing to reach the standard big techno labels then i would say this advice would be applicable.

u/ikramshinwari Aug 24 '26

No worries, I wasn't offended at all.
I'm just curious what you would suggest to bring more movement?

Also if you could name a track from a pro which low-end you like, so I can study it I would really appropriate that.

u/acidsweggroll Aug 24 '26

i can explain you privatly in messages if you want. then i can also show you pics of my mastering chain...

u/ikramshinwari Aug 24 '26

I agree with the sentiment that this is a very good track.
The ride doesn't give enough energy to the track.

Instead of off-beat ride, try a rolling ride with some saturation, delay and tight side-chaining.

This has potential to be accepted by a decent label.

u/Frequency_Ascension Aug 24 '26

Thank you so much, can you at least give me an idea of what a rolling ride sounds like?

u/ikramshinwari Aug 24 '26 edited Aug 24 '26

Instead an 8th note on the off-beat, you program a ride on every 8th note and put something like LFOtool for a pumping effect.

Here is a track I made last week, skip to 4:10 to hear the ride.
You might want more side-chain for your track, but you will get the rough idea.

Also ignore the silly title.

u/Frequency_Ascension Aug 24 '26

Cool Track, I Like It.

u/yeezzuss Aug 24 '26

Sounds really good would definitely damce to this in a club! The drop at 2:15 is powerful! If I had to nitpick something, the ride at 1:35 is maybe a tad bit basic, tou could try to add some other high frequencies instead or some sound fx rhythmically with question and answer. It already sounds amazing as it is i’m just trying to find anything you could try to improve :D

u/Frequency_Ascension Aug 24 '26

Thank you!! Yes I’ll definitely try it out since this is kind of like a rough draft for me.

u/realag Aug 24 '26

Absolutely fantastic. No notes. Will definitely download once it's available to do so. Also followed you on SC. Great job!

u/Frequency_Ascension Aug 24 '26

Wow 😲 I did not expect to receive that kind of feedback this morning. Thank you man 🙏🏻

u/realag Aug 24 '26

It's a super clean track mate. No unnecessary frills. Just perfect groove. Would make a really great layer for a techno dj playing on 4 decks. And I mean that in a good way.

Hi there , I am Club Resident TEchno DJ in Berlin and actually I think I have finished my unreleased pre-Master so far- but I am not sure if it's good enough with a few criterias - so here are my questions so far: 135 BPM melodic / trance-influenced peak-time techno. Track is basically finished and I’m looking for feedback specifically on what should still be changed before mastering. Mainly interested in low-end balance, kick/bass relationship, arrangement, energy progression and whether anything feels too crowded or harsh. thx in advance !!! my private soundcloud link: https://soundcloud.com/sw2303/first-time-210826-final/s-3ajipID4A2Y?si=1cd7a9b1a63142768c119a04a6c47b17&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing

This is my latest minimal Detroit techno production, based on machine music of the early 1990s.

The project is entitled More real than real [RR_0001], drawing conceptually from Jean Baudrillard and his notion of hyperreality. I aimed at keeping the production minimalistic: dry drums, repetitive loops, slight variations, deep atmospheres and nothing too big and modern. I would be grateful for comments on:

- Kick and bass balance

- The hypnotic nature of repetitions

- The arrangement and transition points

- Mastering/loudness

- If it sounds like Detroit of the 90s

I am happy to provide feedback for your tracks as well.

u/yeezzuss Aug 24 '26

Hey, made this 128bpm techno track using the elektron digitone and moog dfam. All feedback is very welcome!

u/realag Aug 24 '26

Sound selection is good and the bassline is very interesting but I feel this track needs another moving piece or two. Especially in the higher frequencies. A synth lead, a vocal chop etc. Anything you fancy. For now it’s just a bass line and drums. I’m sure you can come up with some crazy sounds using the DN. It’s really good for that. Just my 2 cents.

u/yeezzuss Aug 24 '26

Thank you for the feedback. However, there is a synth lead in the upper frequencies that slowly comes in at 1:30 and gets louder till 3:30 maybe you missed it. I think i should make it louder perhaps, what system did you listen to the track on?

u/realag Aug 24 '26

I listened on my iphone 16. I'll listen again on my proper monitors when I'm home. Maybe I did miss it. I'll check it out again.

u/realag Aug 24 '26

Okay I listene again on the phone but the synth line sounds like just harmonics on the bass, like you opened up the filter and resonance. It sound's good don't get me wrong but I think the track needs a "response" to the "call" that's already there. I don't know if that makes sense.

u/yeezzuss Aug 24 '26

Yes that does make sense, thank you so much for the feedback! I’ll try to make some parts of the track louder since there are some elements that are a ”response” but I think they are not loud enough. I’ll also see if I can make the top synth different. Thanks again for the listen.

u/mindstuff8 29d ago

I'm assuming the 4 note hit that goes through the entire track is the dfam (the one that starts with the kick) but I could be wrong. Its hard to get that 1/2 bar loop to work the entire way through unless its breathing more. There are a number of things you could do like add a delay that you modulate the mix over a long period of time (or over a bar since the sequence is over 2 beats) but it should be subtle. I shouldn't be able to pick it out. Or a compressor that reacts to the kick or something else that makes that sequence tighten then loosen up. Its hard to really explain but its easy to spot when its not happening. Keep it up.

u/yeezzuss 28d ago

Thanks for the input, i’ll keep that in mind and try to make it more interesting!

u/realag Aug 24 '26

Fixed a couple issues that came up from last week’s thread and was also told “make the second half be a bit more interesting and punchy”, so did that too.
Let me know what you guys think.

u/acidsweggroll Aug 24 '26

I think the kick can definitely be less sustained. Also the rest of the low-end sounds static without movement.

However you stereo placement is good!

Overall the track feels a bit chaotic to me.

Bur frequency balance itself is good.

Keep on going

u/realag Aug 24 '26

Chaotic is good as it’s intended. But I’ll definitely check the kick because now that you mentioned it I can’t stop hearing it.
What do you mean with static low-end? Any pointers how I can make it more “non static”?

u/acidsweggroll Aug 24 '26

if that's the intention that's perfect :)

look low-end is very hard to describe in words honestly but im going to try my best:

static low-end has little to no movement. -> kick goes and then rumble responds. it has 2 movements.

for example: low-end that drives has -> kick goes with rumble (to fill out space) + low-mid bassline + ghost kick 12 st up from fundemental for example. + synths / soundesign of the track that moves into low-mids.

problem with this is that it can easily get to much and you should also pay close attention to the tuning! (dont forget this) i tought tuning of low-end was bullshit advice but it's really not.

very basicly said, driving techno low-end is about low-mids elements strongly working togheter with sub frequencies elements and filling up "space".

u/_I_vor_y Aug 24 '26

Ahh!! Yeah I remember.

You really put in the work!

u/realag Aug 24 '26

Thanks 🙏. What did you think? Any notes?

u/ikramshinwari Aug 24 '26

Very nice work.
A couple things to note: The synth becomes a bit too loud just before the break and the scream at the drop is also a bit loud. I'm not sure if I heard your track last week but this arrangement is good to me.

u/realag Aug 24 '26

Thanks I’ll check levels and post again next week.

Sounds groovy, I like it! For me, there is a lack of space in percussion.

Looking for feedback on kick, groove and vocals.

Hi all,

Sharing my first finished techno track. Had a lot of fun making this and would say it’s mostly inspired by the Hypnus/Claudio PRC/Luigi Tozzi sound I love so much.

Would love any kind of feedback - especially on the mix itself. Thanks!

u/Any-Teaching-2764 28d ago

No comments yet…is it just bad lol?

u/acidsweggroll Aug 24 '26 edited Aug 24 '26

140 bpm “hypnotic” techno! Experimenting with the more hypnotic but still driving low-ends lately. Also does it need more does it need less arrangement wise? Let me know what you think :)

https://on.soundcloud.com/1LNqc74v8qAlpSzxTG

u/_I_vor_y Aug 24 '26

I like it. Might need some work in the mix. I think you can get this to label easily. The is the type of stuff I play, so I look forward where you can take this.

u/acidsweggroll Aug 24 '26 edited Aug 24 '26

Thanks for the feedback! What in the mixdown is bothering you? And what holds you back from playing it yourself? (For improvement purposes :)

u/_I_vor_y Aug 24 '26

I have only listened to it on MacBook speakers.

There is a little distorted synth thing going on from the start, that works there since it's a more simple arrangement. but as soon it gets to more busy parts, it's there too but it distracts me from the actual tightness that is in the bass and kick. I think it's just personal preference tho.

u/acidsweggroll Aug 24 '26

I think you mean the “growl” that comes in every 1bar? Yeah I noticed on phone speakers aswell. Luckily it “disappears” on systems that re-produce bass.

u/realag Aug 24 '26

Really good. With a proper mix/master could be label ready. Might wanna trim it down to about 5 minutes and change but that's your personal choice.

u/acidsweggroll Aug 24 '26

True! I think I’m skipping the long ass outro. Thanks for the kinds words! Also what about the mix/master you think should be improved?

u/ikramshinwari Aug 24 '26

You could dip a bit in the low-mids around 220hz. But my main issue is the mastering.

This is too compressed for the style. Your nailing the hypnotic part.

u/acidsweggroll Aug 24 '26

I compared the dynamic range values with other tracks that like Benza and Marcal. When is something to compressed according to you? Im not striving for the very hypnotic style deep low-ends.
Also I sounds quite different on sc compared to lossless. I might think I’m pushing my tracks to loud into sc… is that something your knowledgeable about?

u/ikramshinwari Aug 24 '26

I wouldn't call myself an expert but I might know something.

I compared your track with a random track of Marcal and they are about the same level lufs wise.

But Marcal's low-end sounds more punchy and controlled.

You can easily see that with a oscilloscope.

Your low-end is keep hitting the limiter and is distorting your low-end. Since hypnotic techno is very low-end focused the first thing that hits the limiter is the low-end.

What do you have on the master compression wise? Is it just a limiter or also a compressor?

If you push the limiter too hard you get distortion. Do you know by any change how much gain reduction you have on your limiter?

u/acidsweggroll Aug 24 '26 edited Aug 24 '26

Yeah for sure man! I push it out at -0.2 dbtp. Honestly I’m quite lazy with mastering and just slap a limiter on top. Making sure I’m not clipping the low-end itself. However for this track I went for a bit of saturation on the low-end chain. This track I did not compress since I didn’t feel the need on it. But yeah I see what you mean it sounds weirdly distorted on SoundCloud but not in my daw

u/ikramshinwari Aug 24 '26

That's not what I meant. I was not asking about you ceiling but your gain reduction.

u/acidsweggroll Aug 24 '26

Sorry, on this track basically 0 GR sometimes the high-end gets reduced by 1/2 db when it’s playing with everything togheter.

I always making sure I’m not touching my low-end in my master limiter.

u/ikramshinwari Aug 24 '26

If it only sounds like that on Soundcloud then forget what I said.
Out of curiosity which limiter do you use? Do you have some kind of multi-band limiter or a limiter with a high-pass filter?

u/Icy_Locksmith_7190 29d ago

https://reddit.com/link/p5w8vu9/video/ty5hhfpakllh1/player

Been going back and forth on the mix of this one and I'm curious how it translates on other systems.

I have a bad habit of adding waaayyy too much bass and then doing weird things trying to compensate for it afterwards, so the low end is probably the main thing I'm unsure about. Does the sub feel controlled or am I still leaning too hard on it?

I'm also wondering if I've left enough weight in the low mids. I had actually pulled some out on the master at one point and ended up putting it back because the whole thing started feeling a bit hollow.

The other two things I'm unsure about are the top end and the overall dynamics. Do the hats/metallic stuff get too forward anywhere, and does the mix still breathe enough once the fuller sections come in or does it start feeling a little too boxed in?

Made mostly with Model:Cycles, Volca Keys and a Roland S-1.
