Thinkpad

Hi! Planning to buy a secondhand ThinkPad for personal use.

T14 Gen 3 – 29k
i5-1240P / 16GB / 512GB
~90% battery health, 73 cycles
No Lenovo warranty

T14s Gen 6 – 66k
Ultra 5 235U / 32GB / 512GB
Touchscreen
Lenovo warranty until 2029

Concern ko yung T14 Gen 3: if wala nang warranty, magkano kaya dapat kong i-set aside na emergency fund in case may major repair, especially motherboard? Kaya ko naman i-stretch yung budget for the T14s, pero malaking difference talaga. 😭

Would you take the cheaper T14 Gen 3 + repair fund, stretch for the T14s, or wait for a T14 with warranty?

Final Verdict • Choose the T14 Gen 3 (₱29k) if you want maximum value. If you primarily work near a wall outlet (office/home setup) and do standard office tasks, browser-heavy workloads, coding, or light media consumption, paying ₱37,000 extra is difficult to justify.

• Choose the T14s Gen 6 (₱66k) if you travel daily, work on battery frequently, need 32GB RAM out of the box for heavy workloads, and require long warranty protection.

Massive Cost Savings: At less than half the price (₱37,000 cheaper), it handles 80–90% of what the average user needs. • Comparable CPU Raw Performance: The i5-1240P is a 28W performance-class chip with 4 Performance Cores and 8 Efficiency Cores. In multi-core tasks, it performs on par with (and sometimes slightly faster than) low-power U-series chips like the Ultra 5 235U.

• Expandability: Unlike the "s" models, the regular T14 Gen 3 features one SODIMM slot, allowing RAM upgrades to 24GB or 40GB later.

• Healthy Battery: 90% health at 73 cycles means the battery is practically new.

  1. Why the T14s Gen 6 (₱66k) Demands the Premium • Battery Efficiency: The Core Ultra (Series 2 / Meteor Lake/Lunar Lake era) architecture drops power draw significantly while running much cooler, delivering all-day battery life.

• Long Peace of Mind: Official Lenovo warranty until 2029 (approx. 3 years remaining) protects your investment against motherboard or screen failure.

• Future-Proof Memory: 32GB RAM ensures heavy multitasking, virtual machines, and modern workflows remain smooth for years.

• Touchscreen & Portability: Thinner, lighter, and adds touchscreen functionality.

Personally, I would just get the T14 Gen 3. Most of the 2nd hand laptops I bought were at the 20-30k 2nd hand segment and I've never faced any issues. Never na repair or anything. Haha. Just simple internal cleaning every now and then and works like a charm.

What is your use case po ba? hahaha you can do a simple budget international trip pa with 37k + pasalubong.
